I know garden hose reels are not a major topic but when you pull the hose to wash your bike and its hard to pull gets snagged or you cannot reel it back its a pain. I have been so annoyed when washing the car or bike to fight the hose either to pull it out or reel it in or just kinking that its so nice to have something that works like it should.

I found this reel its kind of expensive but its the best one I have ever found. Made well actually has a plastic bearing, a friction brake on it so its easy to coil and uncoil the hose and just the best engineered reel I have ever used. Ones like this usually go for much more but they just thought of everything for this.

They even give you the mounting bolts and the tools to assemble it.

I put the Flexzilla hose on it, which is lightweight kink free and has good connections on it and its just a pleasure to be able to use the hose without a hassle.

Robert, this is a subject I am interested in.

The concept of easily reeling in a hose and keeping it out of direct UV sunlight (which kills hoses) is such a good idea. I added a couple hose bibs to the house, then splitters, and ran reels at 4-5 locations, so I didn't have to pull long hoses all over the property.  But I have used a dozen of the garden variety plastic hose reels (still $35-50), and they all self destruct (and leak like hell) in very short order (and are pure JUNK!!!).  I got tired of replacing them, so now they still hang on my fence and gates all around the property, but I just pull in and coil the hoses on top of them the old fashioned way.   Angry

That all metal one with good metal plumbing is a great idea.  But I'm not spending that much on a hose reel.

If you get hoses rated for hot water, they can sit out in the yard/sun for years
without rotting... if flexilla hose is anything like the flexilla green air hose,
these rated-for-hot-water hoses are lots more clunky and stiff...

Exactly the same set up I did last year. Planted a 6x6 with concrete, should not have to bother ever again.

This year I bought one of these:

Suncast Touch & Go hose reel for 125' of hose.  It requires a firm pull to get the hose out, so it needs to either be staked to the ground or do what I did and put a 2" thick concrete sidewalk block in front of it to keep it from moving on the concrete patio.  you move the lever on the side and a water-driven motor reels the hose back in for you.  It has worked well so far.  I think the version I have is only available in Canada, but they call a similar model the "Aquawinder" in the US:

Lowe’s has that for about $90.00 and I bought one a month or  two ago. I like it, especially the power rewind. My son has had one for about 3 years with no problems. I need to get another one for the other side of the house.

that flexzilla hose for 31 bucks is not too bad priced if works for a decade or more.

I am still on my OEM lifetime warranty 50 foot hose since 1993 paid 20 bucks or so way, way back then, but is starting to see its age and just this year first time ever got a kink in it suppose to be kink free but nothing last forever.  If only I can find the receipt from 1993 stating lifetime warranty and send receipt into company get a new one for free, right?

It pays to spend MORE upfront on a garden hose 25 bucks on up vs. the cheaper 10-15 dollar ones that only last a few years and are junk.

As far as hose reels,  I spend around 25-30 bucks on sale for a plastic one that has a hose guide built in and is a square box type and those seem to work good enough for me until the sun rots them after 15 years or so since you really need to store them inside in the cold WI winters.  Plastic and cold and hot sun do not mix for decades long use.  Am on my 3rd hose reel cart since 1993 not too bad.
