Took a short ride today and met a really nice guy on a full dress Indian    Said he has owned a variety of Harly Davidsons and a couple Goldwing over the years but said the Indian was the smoothest ridding bike he has owned.    I showed him the nickle trick and he was impressed but said he loves his Indian.  Any body had any dealings with the new Indians?

I have a 2017 Chieftain. It rides very well, smooth, doesn’t shake like Harley. Well balanced. It is hot, being a v-twin but that doesn’t keep me from riding it sure. I have done a little remove some heat, removed catalytic converter and ceramic coated the head pipes.
That said, have 2 valks currently also, previously another Valk, shadow, VTX, 3 gold wings, that’s it for now.

Yes, nice machines.  A low CG, a low 1st gear, but still a v twin.  Short power band  with short gear ranges that are typical of v twin, but yes nice machines.

Find a dealer and take a few out for a spin; you will see what I mean.

I really like the looks of the Springfield, hard bags and a windshield, like
a Tourer... I always mean to sign up for a test ride, but haven't yet... I'd
like to find some good motorcycle that is rentable and also comfortable to
ride un-modified...

The Springfield gets great reviews, especially for comfort and cornering on a large bike.  The Indian forums and Victory forums are buzzing about the new bike coming for Indian.  It will be a fixed fairing bike with all the latest tech, but the anticipation is mostly about the new engine.  It would have been the next engine to replace the Freedom 106 in the Victorys.  108 ci Power Plus.  Water cooled to meet new emissions and 120 hp at the crank.  Most the Victory folks are hoping it has the same characteristics as the 106 which means more smooth mid range pull to the redline of hopefully 6500 rpms.  And it will be overhead cam instead of the 111/116 pushrod and make for easy and relatively inexpensive cam upgrades to grab more hp and torque.  A lot of speculation.  Code name for now is Challenger, but it could be the Renegade or Raven as these have been trademarked.

I've ridden them several times and while nice, I don't think they compare to our Valkyries.  I find them cramped, and underpowered, and EXPENSIVE.  Good looking bike though.

My cousin just blew the engine on his 2017 Chieftain.  Only has 30000kms. The skirt on the front piston broke. Engine is toast. I always knew it was a pos.

I've ridden every Indian up at Americade for the last 4 years. Nice bikes. Expensive, but no more than a new Goldwing, however, I do believe I like my Valkyrie better than any of the Indians. Also, Americade is in early June, and a friend of mine told me he rode one in the dead of summer and the heat coming off was pretty hot. I don't think I would ever pull the trigger on an air cooled bike compared to a water cooled bike, but that's just me.
