This November I will have my 99 Interstate for 20 years...I will have almost 80k on her. I brought her new out of the box. Cleaned her almost everytime I have ridden her, waxed her at least once a year and kept her indoors when not being riddin.
Today I did a charity ride, a ride I have been doing since it inception 18 years ago. Today, I parked in the line up area and had 3 guys stop and look at my bike from about 30 feet away...I mention this because my 20 yo bike is surrounded by newer HD's.
One of those guys came closer and asked one of my buddies (who just this summer brought a street glide) and asked him about the bike. So my buddy says it is a 19 street glide. The guy says no, the green one...I was watching and laughing...my buddy looks over at me sort of not again look on his face and says that his bike. So I told the guy about my bike. Then I tell him this November I will have it for 20 years...he then asked quizzically "That's a 99?" I said yes it is proudly. He just said unbelievable. He said awesome bike and went back to his buddies...
I heard him tell his buddies that it was a 99 Valkyrie, I then heard a couple "You have to be Fn kidding me!"
She keeps turning heads....

(happens to me too) (a few guys know what it is, but many ask.... WTF is that? When they comment on the (cherry looking) 20y's old, I always say I looked a lot better when I was 20 too. The other thing you find with the Hog crowd, in 20 years, they've mostly all had several bikes in that time frame (every one of which cost more than mine). Except for those Ironhead Sportster guys. [ XL, Ironhead, 1957–1985]: Can you believe this is 35 years old? Why yes, I can.

I usually get 1 of 2 comments. Usually it's "wow that's a nice bike, what year?" then when you tell them it's 16 years old "no way" or I do get quite a few people that know exactly what it is and stop to chat. We had a bike event going on in a little vacation town near me. I was backing up into a spot when a gentleman asked if i ever got a hard time for parking with a row of H.D's as i was doing. I told him i hadn't had anyone try to kick my a-- for it so far. With the HD riders there he was like "I would rather ride a Valk any day"

HA! That's great. I've only been an owner for a short time, but she still turns MY head. I stopped at a lunch spot a few weeks ago, and Mr and Mrs Harley couple pulled in and started walking up to the door but stopped as I started the engine and chatted with my buddy. They just stared. I wheeled around and prepared to pull out, noticed they were still staring. I gave a friendly wave at the stop sign and twisted the throttle. I caught them in my mirror still standing at the door staring. I love my valk.

Stopped in Hattiesburg (on my way to the DRU) early this morning to top off fuel. While doing so, a V Twin came in to a pump across the lot. I heard it pull in but continued what I was doing, sipping on some java. Looked up and saw the rider coming toward me. Had no idea why. He stopped about 10 feet away and just stood there looking. Then he said, what is that? That’s blank beautiful! What is it? At that point I figured he wasn’t asking about me. We talked till I finished my coffee. Apparently, he had never seen a Valkyrie. Mine is no where nearly as nice as some out there but it still made me feel good about the fat lady and her rider’s good taste in bikes.

Had only 3 incidents of people coming up to me and wanting to chat/compliment my Valks. I try not to clean it up too often maybe 1-2 times all year is all to keep the public away from it wanting to chat, chat, chat until no end. 1st time guy followed me into an Ace Hardware parking lot wanting to know all about my 01 I/S. After 10 minutes of blabbering, I said I had to get going was pressed for time. 2nd time was same 01 I/S coming out of the grocery store and noticed what I would assume 2 HD riders dressed in black leather walking slowly up to my chrome/black pretty much stock I/S but cleaned up and they stared at it for like 20 seconds before they figured it was a HONDA, then quietly walked away soon after - that was the funniest since I was walking towards them while they were walking away. 3rd time was my chromed out 98 Valk blue/cream tourer I pulled into my local gas station in town and the same car behind me from the hwy. followed me into town into the gas station to ask tons of questions on it. I showed him my 20 year old collector plates and he could not believe it was 20 years old NO way he said. Thus, I do not wash/wax them as often as I should or use to only a few years ago. Maybe I am just lazier though to be honest...

I am not sure what is going on, but got another compliment on her again today on the way home from work. Maybe we should start a compliment thread???? ... I almost never take Daisy Mae out but what someone compliments or wants to talk about the bike. I'm good with that. I figure if someone doesn't want to be social he has no business riding a Valkyrie.

Not as quickly as it would have 2 years ago, but my guess would be pretty quickly.

Occasionally people cluster around my black bike and ignore the other Valkyries. Much more often, people cluster around Joe's blue bike and ignore everything else... -Mike

Cute girls there Carl.
Not mine but they liked the bike. They are the offspring of a little girl who grew up two houses down. Some things make a man feel old.
