Congrats on the new to you bike. Enjoy and ride safe.

I spent 6 months reading the Tech section, learning all I could about the bike before picking it up in the late spring, so I would have a better understanding about issues that might come up on it. The known problems in the Shoptalk section is a good start.

The Valk is the better BMW anyway...
Sure didn't see many Valks on the highway @ 7AM with me this morning (low 40s ambient) but I did see a pretty fast R12-GS along the way.

How did I know he was fast? Because when me and my Connie flew past him, we were hauling arse...  Evil

I can't say I prepped that much before the purchase, but I did spend a good month doing research on issues, reviews, personal opinion, etc.  First purchase after the bike was my handy Clymers manual (i'm a fan of them) and downloaded the service manual.  Luckily, there don't seem to be many common issues that are super concerning to me.  I'm good at maintenance, repairs, and keeping up on them.  All new fluids and filters are already on their way.  I didn't even ask what oil to use....

My next post will be a technical one.  Thanks to all for any help so far.

On derisive HD rider comments -

Once I pulled alongside a harley at a light.  The rider looked over and sneered, "Nice car."

I said "Thanks.  Nice vibrator." Figured it would go over his head if I said "dildo".

Light changed and I smoked him.

I actually get more waves from Harley riders in general than I do from almost all other marques. Sure, there's always the 'tuded tard whose wife ran off with the head of Honda R&D; he won't acknowledge me no matter what.

An F6 does draw a lot of attention and comments - especially one that's customized.

I get waves from HD riders too. Most all of them except if they have high ape hangers. Less from beemer riders.  I think they just don't wave much at anybody.  Too preoccupied with something I guess.  Maybe themselves.  I attribute getting waves from most everybody to the fact that my main rider's identity (Jade) is obscured by the lights - hard to see the cam belts cover when blinded by the lights - so I might be on a hog, better do the point-down wave.
