Want to check a couple vac tube lines - MD Tech

I was looking in the FSM, and its not totally clear, also looked in the fische on partzilla...
I didnt document this enough when I took it apart, just want to confirm before I put the airbox back on.

Looks like this hose goes to the open port on the tank. But waht is confusing it is the T on the line. It then follows and drains to the bottom of the bike.  The T is open with no tube on it in the fische



Is there a line that goes on the T? - Doesnt look like it?

I think the Vacuum line off the #5 cylinder intake goes on the petcock port?


The fuel line connection is obvious....

Vacuum line on petcock goes to #6. If you're desmogged, I don't know why
it would matter which one it went to.

The thing with the T is a vacuum break or something that is supposed to be
there to insure that your tank is venting.

Our tanks are weird (well, probably not to whoever designed them  ) ... If you
take your tank off and set it on its nose (it balances well there) it will set up a
vacuum/siphon and a gas-fountain will start shooting out the vent tube. If you
pop open the lid (bad idea while your tank is on its nose if there's much gas
in there) you can hear the vacuum break and the fountain will stop.

Whatever you do, make sure that tee is clean.  I actually made the goof when replacing that old line and forgot to put in the tee.  When I went riding the next time it rained that vent hose sucked water up just enough to block the tank from gravity feeding the fuel line... and the engine cut out.  Had to pull over, then after a few minutes of waiting it ran fine.  Rode some more, starved the fuel, pulled over, waited, got better. Then finally figured out what the deal was and added the Tee.

Whatever you do, make sure that tee is clean.  I actually made the goof when replacing that old line and forgot to put in the tee.  When I went riding the next time it rained that vent hose sucked water up just enough to block the tank from gravity feeding the fuel line... and the engine cut out.  Had to pull over, then after a few minutes of waiting it ran fine.  Rode some more, starved the fuel, pulled over, waited, got better. Then finally figured out what the deal was and added the Tee.

So... what I'm getting is? .... That the T is a breather part and needs to be wide open, no hose attached?

I could be miss labeling the cylinder number --- its left rear and the OEM hose is already there.

yes, nothing attached to the "T". It's just an air break. It doesn't matter which intake the vacuum line is attached to.

yes, nothing attached to the "T". It's just an air break. It doesn't matter which intake the vacuum line is attached to.
