Riding in to work this morning at 3:45 in pitch dark (Havasu doesn’t believe in street lights). Something white caught my eye in the road. Thought it was a bag, and swerved barely missing it. As I get right on it I realize it’s no bag, it was a skunk that had just been hit. I sure appreciate that sucker showing me his stripe. Soon as I got by it the smell hit me. Holy crap ! That was nauseating. Sure am glad I don’t have that on me or the bike. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.  Smiley

One sprayed near me (but not on me) in the dark one night walking up the path from my house...
it was like getting hit in the face with a 2X4!

I'm weird in more ways than one, I accept that, but I love the smell of skunk....

Riding to work at 3:45 AM?!?!?! No wonder you're so cranky! Wink 3:45 should only be seen from the back end, not the front end!

Been behind the wheel up in the high seat of my 18 wheeler at oh dark thirty a few times when others have hit the little smelly bastids. Seen them in the headlights a few times-the walk like they're drunk or high-and been fortunate enough to swerve or stop or slow down or avoid the altogether. Friend of my got sprayed while fishing, His Wife let him in the house only to shower. Took him right at two weeks to git back in his Wifes bed.  Lips Sealed cursed pole cats STINK! RIDE SAFE.

I have been cursed/blessed with the loss of my smell system.  Its loss involved a bad tank of chlorine gas.  While I can't actually smell the wood kitty, I do get a strange feeling in my nose when close to a dead one on the road while riding.    Not unpleasant but does sort of burn a bit.  One time our dog had a run in with a skunk, I brought him into the house not realizing it had occurred.  Think that is when my DW finally believed me that I had problems smelling.   She thought I had sat in kitchen earlier in the year and let her pot roast burn on purpose (I don't really like pot roast).  I do feel you folks who can smell.

When I was a kid, back in the days when dogs could roam around free.  We had a border collie that did nothing but chase and kill skunks at night.  Not sure why he did it but he once trapped a skunk in our garage and that place stuck for months.  He also trapped one under our front porch.  Nothing like visitors coming to your front door and smelling that.  The good thing is that the Fuller brush man didn't come around for quite a while.

I am sort of like Serk,  the skunk smell does not bother me as much as most people, but I do not like it, but is tolerable.  I once trapped a skunk in my live trap in backyard and let it spray and spray and spray.  I ended up shooting it with my .22 but did not hit it too well gotta not hit the glands - dah!    2funny

Same here.
If I see one, or whats left of one, in the road I'll hold my breath till I pass...

A couple of years ago I was coming out of my drive heading to work, not quite that early -6ish- but still dark, and the same thing happened: saw something whiteish wobbling across my driveway.
Sure enough a skunk, heading home I guess, cutting across right in front of me.
I'm giving him enough room, praying something doesn't spook him (like my dogs start barking!) and he thinks it's me! I wasn't that far away!
Luckily he went his way and I went mine, in the other direction.
