This afternoon I took apart the turn signal switch to clean it. It was very hard to move and it turns out the grease in it turned rock hard.
Tonight around dark I wanted to take the bike and see how the headlight does and if it is adjusted properly. Start the bike, notice the front right turn siginal is on. Blinkers work back and front but that one light stays on so I took the switch apart and really can't figure out why that is on all the time?
My thought was the front signals are also running lights, took a lens cover off and the bulb has two filaments. I assuming running lights???
Anyone know what is going on here?

Which one? Are the blinkers supposed to be running lights or is the one staying on the bad one?

They are running lights also. The one not on is likely burned out.

Yes, the front lights on a Standard and Tourer are running lights and turn signals (the rears are turn signals only). The only time the running light should be off is when the turn signal on that side is flashing.

Same for the Interstate also in addition to the bulb being burnt out, corrosion in the socket is also possible.

Switched the bulbs around the one bulb doesn't work as a running light in either socket.
I'll get a couple of bulbs tomorrow, not exactly a break the bank part.

Yep bulb was bad no problems.
I did notice the back turn signal lights are set up to run as running lights which I believe is illegal? Aren't they supposed to be red to be running/turn signal lights on the back?
Anyone know where to get red lens for stock turn signals? Yes I'm being lazy, I don't want to spend a bunch of time figuring it out. BTW I have no motorcycle shops near me, I usually have to order off the internet.

Yes, it is illegal to have amber lights (or any color but red) on the back, except for turn signals. Last time I found red lenses was on eBay, but I haven't gotten them for a Valkyrie before. You could try clear lenses, and put in red bulbs, perhaps LEDs.

If the backs are also running lights, someone modified them. The red lenses have always been hard to find. Need to pay attention to whether the lenses have one screw or two screws. Some have painted the insides of the amber lenses with candy red model car paint. Or, as suggested above, clear lenses and red bulbs, depending on how the lights were modified.

I figuring if I have to get clear lens and red bulbs I might as well just switch over to universal red LED's for the back. Doesn't look like set is very expensive. Then I'll want to match the tail light with led's anyone have a good cheap setup for that?
I'm going to look over Ebay and Amazon tonight and see what I can find. Couldn't find a red lens last night anywhere. That's the simple option but it might not be possible???

It's possible. I don't remember if this is the company I got mine from. There are also deep dish red & chrome ones available from Kuryaken. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LD73NJ4/ref=twister_B00LD6XV1U?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I bought my red lenses back in 2009. Paid $32 for the pair.
Clear Alternatives CTS-0020-RR (one screw) or CTS-0021-RR (two screw). I believe they currently only sell clear and smoke.
Unless you get lucky, you will probably need to either paint the amber or clear lenses, or get red bulbs or LEDs. I believe many use red LEDs with the amber lenses.

The red lens that I was finally able to get, were too dark red (single screw). You'll probably end up with the same batch from the same factory. At the time, led bulbs were that bright as they are today. So, I didn't try led bulbs then. Ebay, here.

Those (single screw) are the style used on the 1600 Vulcan just awhile ago to replace broken tab and causing the lens falling out on the pavement.

I have single screw lens and as a matter of fact one of the front lens is starting to break. Little crack but not all the way through.
Thanks for the options. I'm still checking out going LED with the turn signal lights and tail light.

Hey Meathead I got those and they worked out fine. I'm legal now.
Took one of the amber's from the back to replace the half broken one on the front so everything is fine now.
