What a tragedy

The article said the plane was not gaining altitude, tried to return and lost control after hitting the ground and crashed into a de icing facility

If 13 were on the plane (10 passengers per flight and 3 crew) and 6 in hospital that is not a good thing at all

5 confirmed dead so far  3 missing?

There is only one b-17 that I am aware of that Collings owns and that is Nine 0 Nine which
I flew on last month with my brother   I hate thinking that the crew of 3 I met did not make it
These are dedicated people and that plane is inspected by FAA regularly as well as all the staff
My flight was the smoothest I ever experienced in ANY kind of aircraft.  I would have gone back up anytime I had the chance and money to do so

According to Wikipedia, it was indeed 909 that went down.

There was an air show at the small airport in my hometown this past Saturday. I did not attend as I was at the downtown car cruise-in. A couple vintage fighters circled town in close formation, also a B-17 gave us a fly by fairly low over the show. If I remember right, the flying fortress here was polished mill finish. Anyway my heart hurts for the folks lost also sad about the craft.

I just visited this plane in NH and I believe it's the same one Oss flew in.

Its my understanding that one engine failed on TO, but, there must have been more to this accident that that.
A light B17 will certainly fly on 3 engines.  So I'll be waiting to receive/read the report.
The B17 is a beautiful flying aircraft.

One of the great things about meeting people is that you never know what will come of it

We met Steve on the flight, he works at Delta and had been on the plane before.

Here is a pic he took of the pilot (who was killed in the crash) and the co pilot (not sure if he was also in the plane that day)

The pilot had thousands of hours in the plane   Can not believe it is gone.  My friend's wife was supposed to go up yesterday out of Westchester airport but I hear all flights are cancelled now

prayers for all lost and hurt and of course for Jabba and his friend

From what I understand now is that the landing was made, but, something happened causing them to veer hard right into the building.  I don't know what happened to cause that, I'm thinking a brake issue but don't want to wild guess.
I have 28-29 hrs  in the right seat of a G model and they are a wonderful flying airplane. It had 2 Studebaker built engines that I would have liked to get the tags from, but, since that can't happen,,,,

I've just read where they came up short by 1000ft taking out about 30 approach lights. That means they actually came up 2000ft short. Now we need to wait to see if we ever learn why.

A friend works there, I spoke with him yesterday. He said there's a long skid mark at the end of the runway that veers off for some reason. If they impacted something as soon as they touched down, that could be the result. There was also at least one engine with a feathered prop.
