I just acquired a Valk in need of some mechanical TLC - and am in the midst of doing a de-smog and general maintenance.  The bike had reportedly sat for some time - and runs (barely) only on the fuel enrichment circuit.  However, when I pulled the carbs, they were in nowhere the condition I was expecting:  relatively clean, no varnish, and everything moving freely.  I now suspect another fuel delivery issue, but I'm going to preemptively clean the jets and replace the float valves before reinstalling.

My question, however, is this:  The bike has what I'm almost certain are Viking exhaust pipes.  The carbs have aftermarket (adjustable) needles, stock jets (35/100), and the pilots were all set at 1 3/4 turns out.  The needles have 6 height adjustments - and the clips are currently set at the fourth rung from the bottom.

For those of you running Viking exhaust with stock jetting, what pilot and needle settings seem to work best?  Just wondering if I'm in the ballpark.

In advance, thanks much.

mixture screws 3 turns out to start.  leave front needles as is, put other four at three notches from bottom.

Thanks very much.

The pipes are currently off the bike - but the header configuration is pretty much identical to your's.  There's a little rust on the underside of the cans, but the headers themselves are quite clean (though not really shiny - kind of a matte finish).

I'll try to post some pics if I can remember my password to sign into Photostash.
