Shopping for my Grandson in the toy section and found a red/white Valkyrie. Don't know if anyone else has seen them yet but the brand is Maisto Fresh Metal 2 Wheelers only paid 4 dollars for it I would have bought a dozen if they would have had them on the shelf. I suspect I will be checking the toy section daily for a while.

Yeah, I've got a few dozen squirreled away in boxes from way back when... Red and Whites, and yellow/blacks and also some of the "Dallas Cowboys" Valks (The Blue and Whites, close enough), as well as I've even got a few Runes...

Way back in the day I found 'em at one Wal Mart, bought all they had, and then used that as an excuse to ride to every Wal Mart in a 20 mile radius (And living in the 4th largest metro area in the nation, that's a LOT of Wally Marts! Wink )

Yep but I dug through the whole display and was looking for an employee to check the back, without luck. Bought a Rune also guess my grandson will get it as a stocking stuffer because he isn't  getting this one yet.

I found one at a garage sale, red & white. I was bitchin about going to garage sales with the wife that particular day. (I could think of better things to do).
I still can hear her saying "see... I new you'd find something you like"  I think I paid a quarter for it, made my day cooldude

hop on your bike and chase down walmarts. I saw one or two recently in my area. Also red-white. I didn't pick it up because I already have several. I was really into those 1/18th scale bikes for a while.  Now they're mostly packed up at the moment just waiting to ride out again.

Happy hunting.

Although I have a yellow and white '98 Standard, I bought four of the black and yellows at Walmart a few years ago for a buck each.  Used one of them to make my sons Grand Champion Pine Box Derby car in 2007.

And today sir is one of those days! Thanks for the pic.

I never had a champion car. I made mine myself with suggestions and safety tips from Dad in the shop.

Many of the other father's in the troop built the car for the son, some of those boys had never seen the car before raceday (which I thought was sad even as a child). I live in the piedmont of NC, and near a lot of race shops for NASCAR. A lot of the boys dad's worked there, a few of the pinewood cars were rumored to be wind-tunnel tested! I remember a few were scale accurate (with sized sponsor decals) of NASCAR cars.

Mine was  a basic wedge that I cut and sanded. We added a bolt from the bottom, and a acorn nut on top. I drew a face on the nut so that  he looked sorta like a guy in a helmet in a car. It also made the weight adjustable because we put some washers on it that could help us pass the legal inspection.

I never won, but it was fun.

A few years ago my brother was in cubscouts and Dad was going to do the same with him, help him build it. One of the other boys didn't have a Dad, so his mother asked if my Dad would help him too because she wanted him to have that experience and didn't know how. I wound up helping the other boy (I was about 18 at the time). That picture of me and Dad satanding behind those two proud boys and thier cars is one that still makes me proud.

They didn't win either. They also weren't sporting cool Valk engines!

Looks like I will be doing  the Pinewood races with my 6 year old in the spring...I had the pack chapion car for 3 years running back in the early 70's...

I have my son drawing designs now...should be a fun time...might need to borrow that valk engine...and wedge it in some how! :-)

I have assisted on no less than 13 cars over the last 7 years.   I bought one of the e-books off the internet on how to build a winning pinebox derby car.   I will admit that in the early years, the cars were 90% my work, but as my kids got older and more skilled with the tools, I let them do most of the work.   The f6 car was about 70% of my sons work.  He was 12 at the time and became very proficient at polishing axles and wheels.     What was an added bonus each year, they held a Sibling race, and a Fathers race.    We have come home with quite a bit of hardware over the years.   This January will be my last build as a Father.   My daughters Girl Scout troop is holding their Bi- annual Powder Puff Derby Race.

It has been a blast and God willing, I will be able to be involved with Grand Kids on these cars someday.
