I ride daily to work and back...parked on Tuesday, Wed had to take the truck into work.
When I got home I smelled/noticed gas on the left side...followed it up and it looked like it was coming from fuel hose near the T and not from the exhaust as I could see some gas on top of the block
Keeping in mind the fuel leak and considering the possibility of fuel in the cylinder, this morning when I tried to start the bike I quickly touched the start button and hear a 'click' (not a clunk mind you)...pulled the #6 plug and tapped the starter button again and nothing happened, just a click noise again.
I was fully expecting to see fuel come out of the cylinder and didn't, so now I'm not sure what is going on with the bike.
To rule out any fuel in the cylinders, I'm going to pull all the plugs and turn the engine over manually to see any fuel comes out of any of the cylinders.
I'll check the battery to make sure I've got good voltage.
After that, not sure how else to proceed, any other suggestions?

Pull all the plugs and then you can use the starter to turn the engine over. (safely)
If no gas comes out the you are ok except for repairing the gas leak.

Pulled all the plugs and the one for cylinder 4 was wet... put her in gear and spun the back wheel and (no surprise) fuel came shooting out.
Spun the rear wheel a couple more times for good measure and then used the starter...nothing else came out.; reinstalled plugs and she fired right up
No idea why this time parking her was any different than any other time..

Keep in mind it doesn't have to be just #6, it can happen to any one of the six cylinders under the right conditions.

You need to fix a couple things. Your petcock is not working correctly. And your #4 float valve is leaking. Chances are without fixing it will happen again, with possibly disastrous results. |

I appreciate your comment and concern. The petcock is a brand new Pingel that they replaced for free after sending the old one back after 15+ yrs. I shut the valve before getting home and am usually sputtering by the time I pull into the garage, however, due to traffic and taking a different route, I likely didn't shut it off early enough and there was still a significant amount of fuel in the system. The carbs were overhauled by BigBF not too long ago... no idea why it would be leaking, but I will take a look and reach out to hi to se if he replaced them at that time (I believe he did as he replaced several parts). Next time the tank is low on gas, I'll pull the pingle and check the screen filter along with the inline sintered bronze filter I installed to see if I'm getting crap from the bottom of the tank. |

You can check everything you want. But you have a faulty needle valve and or float on the carb for the cylinder that locked.
