I have never been a Mustang guy but I have to admit it looks great. For now I'll stick with my C7 Grand Sport Corvette which I absolutely love!

Problem with the Stang, There is no place in US where one can really enjoy this vehicle (except on a track). When I was younger and had a very "go fast car", one could go visit Nevada or Montana to enjoy the ride. Now you get the LEO's visiting with you on correct way to drive.

Ya, but you can get to the legal 85mph in Texas in about 4 seconds.

I was looking at some hp figures of the newer performance cars and they are pretty much all up there. A far cry from the days of the 70's and 80's. My car has 400hp and about the same torque, goes fast enough for me and at 140 with the top down its as smooth as glass.
I don't think I need much more and have driven some that have hp numbers like 600 to 700 hp and while a hoot, I personally think once your around 500 it really doesn't matter much anymore since your connection to the ground will also determine your launch and speed numbers. Many cars with these higher numbers also have 4 wheel drive so they are safer and faster than most of the thier 2 wheel drive counterparts. Even in heavy rain the 4 wheel drive keeps the car stable and on launch its almost impossible to spin the wheels. Couple all of this with 8 speed transmissions and a host of other features gets these car up and moving fast.
I used to think that the hp matters more than the ride, but times have changed and the hp numbers are in cars that look good, have great ac and all the amenities that you would want. Again a far cry from the days that a 502 with 800 hp and 800ft lbs of torque had to be in a stripped out show car. When the emissions came in I thought you could forget any future performance car.
My car has active suspension and its a feature that I really enjoy. That would not have been possible years ago and only became possible lately with the advent of mating suspensions quick enough to react to road changes with the computers and programs able to do the same. There is no lean at all and the car always stays level even under hard braking and cornering. Not being a light car its a welcome addition and you have to be careful since the normal sensation that you would get when a tire looses grip is negated in this suspension setup. Whats also nice is you can with the push of a button raise the car about 1.5 inches in seconds to accommodate more ground clearance or even a parking curb that may want to take off your front bumper.

I agree, much more than 400 ponies and the question is WHY NEED MORE? I would gladly sacrifice 81hp in my tundra truck from 381 to 300 if it meant 3 more mpg since even 300 hp would serve my towing needs. Heck, my 54 hp 638cc vtwin suzuki burgman scooter at 600lbs. (me pushing 300) snaps off the line in POWER push button mode up to say 50 mph beating next to me a BMW convertible and a Porsche 911 in Madison WI off the line this summer. They both tried getting ahead of me in town beating me to the next stop light since I knew they wanted to turn right them in left lane me in right lane, and both had to fall behind me being side by side, them being pissed off at me not able to get ahead of me would NOT allow it. made them both eat crow! do that all the time with my scoot, love doing it all summer long near daily at that one stop light me alongside pretty much any car in right lane them in left lane knowing 90% 'think' they got me beat off the line but has not happened yet. Harley riders love it even more so!

I've been disappointed in Ford since they ended their racing programs several years ago, and just about lost hope when they announced they'd be dropping their entire line of cars except for the Mustang. But I have to admit they have made the Mustang a vastly better car over the last few years. With independent rear suspension and a 4 cam/32 valve V8 (not to mention the 300 HP turbo 4), the current Mustangs make the other Pony Cars look pretty dated. And the flat plane V8 in the Shelby versions is downright exotic.
I can imagine there are some interesting conversations among the R&D engineers at Ford these days. When you're capable of building a world class performance car like the GT350 and GT500, it has to be a bit depressing to think about a future filled with trucks, SUVs and CUVs.

GM did the same thing ending most of their car lineup. I personally think is a HUGE mistake, but SUV and trucks sell well with more profit they say vs. cars which usually get better mpg but harder to get in/out of with less ground clearance. I bet you can get some great deals on 4 door sedans used nowadays with very low mileage....

it is just sad that Germany with a 1910 version of our modern Interstates have no speed limit in most area's vs us--the 0ne rule they that makes it work is the faster car has the right of way--the slower cars stay out of the way until the faster car has passed...simple and effective..try getting that simple a rule thru legislation
