The word I've heard about H4 LED bulbs is that they don't project down the road as far as a good halogen bulb. My advice is to use the Sylvania silverstar Ultra. About $20 per but worth it.

+1 on an IS. But on a standard buy Josh’s adapter and get a Daymaker.  coolsmiley

Not that brand, but I have one in each of my three Valks (NOT I'states). I like them a lot. I tried the adapter rings and Day Makers, but I didn't like that set up as well. I have two adapter rings and two daymakers for sale if anyone want to try them.

Adjusting it was way harder than the stock setup. I carefully followed the youtube instructions with both. I pushed a little hard on the headlight cleaning bugs off, and the light moved in the bracket. Most folks probably wouldn't have the same issues, I'm pretty hamfisted.

Thank you for your replies.
I like to be able to make repairs on the road so keeping as close to the H4 setup appeals to me. My main question with the LED bulb and it's fan is will it fit?
One issue with this or any LED, does the reflector throw the same light as the halogen bulb for which it was designed.
Not interested in the daymaker type light right now, have a Sylvania in there and it does the job.
So I may just spring for the 10.0 and try it.
The 4.5 Jute H3 lights mounted on the windshield do a great job of filling in the rest, but I'm sure there are better options.
Opinions on Clearwater, Denali or Cyclops?
Mounting on windshield or forks?

Running two of the Cyclops latest LED H4's Ultra 10.0's in my Interstate, and you couldn't give me enough other free LED's to cause me to change!

The earlier version Cyclops was in my previous two bikes.

No issues with having plenty spread AND throw....and zero problem to adjust focus a bit, once she got her small hand up in the fairing. Three minute job.

Never any issue, except trying to recall the exact name, to answer the guys with dayMakers et al, who wanna know, "What ARE those?!"

Buy once ($189 for the pair) and cry once.

Any interference with the radio from the LEDs. Heard a few complaints from other types. Thanks

For me, the priorities are LED lights that
1) are very visible to texting cagers in front,
2) light the road and ditches well at night especially to see critters (have killed 2 deer on Deerslayer),
3) lower the load on the alternator having replaced it after high load H4 use at under 50,000 miles,
4) have a compatible focus for the incandescent designed reflectors,
5) headlight has an esthetic appearance I like.

I have the Eagle LED headlight fixture Josh named "Dragon's Eye" which is pretty bright but not as much as my 130/90 H4 was.  On the "spots", two H4 replacement LED Genssi Elite "bulbs" which have emitters that closely emulate the size and position of tungsten filiments the spotlight reflectors were designed to focus.

H4 emitters need to look like this, emulating tungsten filiments of Halogen H4 bulbs in size and position (There are several brands that look like this)  Notice the clocking on this unit is adjustable.  So is the depth (IIRC) if the focus needs adjusting:

NOT like this - this is the Cyclops 10.0 - look at the emitters.  These don't focus well, smearing the light into oncoming driver's eyes.  Yes I have tried and rejected quite a few brands, including Cyclops:

My H4 "spots" are powered by my custom circuit that lets me control the hi-lo beams, run on high beams most of the time (except night with oncoming traffic).  Two more spots running the typical LED fixtures intended as spots, you see on Harleys lately.  Five forward lights spread out across the front of the bike, very visible and draw less power than the one 130/90 H4 headlight did before, on high beam.  Doesn't light up the road as much as the tungsten ones did (but good enough),  at much lower electrical cost - won't burn out or abuse my alternator, and has a fairly good cutoff line when on low beam, not to blind oncoming drivers at night.

The circuit for the H4 (hi-lo headlight bulbs) is:

TWW,

I'd like to weigh in here.

I manufacture and sell the DayMaker Adapter Brackets for LED Headlight upgrades. Having done this for many years now I have learned quite a bit about this topic, and would like to share my knowledge with you.

H4 LED replacement bulbs are great.. for very specific applications. The 7" Valkyrie reflector housing is designed to be used with Halogen bulbs. Though when using an H4 LED replacement bulb, while looking at it appears brighter, that extra light doesn't benefit you. The light pattern on the road is scattered and doesn't give you a longer visual range.

Additionally the H4 LED bulbs themselves can last a long time, however their weak points are the fans and ballasts which fail regularly. Which means you'd better carry spares.

On the flip side, the 7" DayMaker LED headlight are designed specifically for Motorcycles and make a great upgrade option. Combined with my Adapter Bracket installation is seamless, easy, and doesn't require an modifications to your bike. The Headlights I sell (Eagle Lights) only draw 45w, which is less than your Halogen bulb, thus the DayMaker will be easier on your bikes aging wiring and Alternator. Though the DayMaker on draws 45w they put out 2 - 3 times the light (depending on which headlight you choose), and this light pattern on the road is ideal. Eagle Lights have lifetime warranties on all their headlights which are guaranteed to last the life of your bike. There are no ballasts, and fans to go bad, and no need to carry spares. And lastly LEDs are not only usable at night, but also during the daylight hours. The cool white light of the LED cuts through the sunlight making you more visible to other drivers. My company motto is "It's good to see, and be seen".

And so, if you are looking for an LED upgrade that is easy, effective, reliable, and safe the DayMaker is the way to go.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues, but please understand they are not common and can be resolved.

If the DayMaker moves in the bracket simply tighten the bracket a bit more. If it still moves that means the flange on the headlight is thinner than normal and the 3 tabs on the back of the bracket need to be adjusted in to secure the headlight.

I just installed the, Relatively , new JW SPEAKER "Adaptive headlight" . An LED  which as some of you may know, is  designed to  illuminate around the corner as you lean... it really works .  It has about the same footprint as the Daymaker  full LED bulb...  I used a chrome ring from "Headwinds" which required a little modification...but was only $11.00 plus shipping from CO. Really pretty pricey but man...what an output...only 3.5 and 4.0 amps. draw.

No one makes a Universal Headlight adapter for the Valkyrie. That is if there could even be one.
I only shyed away from Darksider's bracket because  somewhere in his notes I read that his bracket didn't fit other headlights. I tried to buy the Eagle Lights bracket , but they wouldn't sell it w/o buying the headlight. I finally found one of some sort on google images... From "Headwinds"  since it was only $11.00 I figured I would try it. It isn't engineered nearly as well as Darksider's. Have to bend tabs and straighten others but the adjustment tab is in the correct position...so it worked. As to the bulb ... it has  tilt sensor circuitry inside that turns on LED s behind progressively angled lenses illuminating the direction your turning... it's not earth shattering, but it does work. Too pricey for Gen 2

I have a friend in Pennsylvania that used a H4 LED Headlight Replacement Bulb by RIVCO on his 2003 Valkyrie.
It was purchased at Montgomeryville Cycle, Hatfield, PA. came with several different mounting adaptors to fit Honda motorcycles. It only cost $70.
He couldn’t believe how easy it was to install. He is also very pleased  with the results.

There is an Adapter for Honda. I make it make. It allows you to seamlessly install just about any DayMaker style headlights into our beloved Valkyries. Here is a link to my installation video to give you an idea of what it's all about.

the little chrome cone in front of the H4/9003 bulb, (I use 9003) needs to be shorten for a better light pattern.
At this time, I have shortened mine 3/8".

No, sir. Zero interference with Cyclops 10.0 Ultra vs. radio.

And I respectfully disagree with Mark T, re: these lights.
In putting weekend miles on my last 3 bikes, ( the two previous bikes used the older  pre- 10.0 Ultras ) but while cruising along on Low beam, I have only been "flashed" by oncoming drivers exactly twice.
And on one of those occasions, I topped the next rise to see a road-full of wreck in the distance.

High beam is another matter....because the Ultra burns both Low and High bulbs @ 100%. On a long empty stretch, coming home from Garden of the Gods, I was once reminded to DIM by the Space Shuttle....

LED's are a matter of personal preference, I realize, but these are my personal favorites. YMMV.

When I bought my standard, it had a cheap LED bulb in the stock housing. Looked "more white" than a normal bulb, but night vision was poor due to no focus. I bought an adapter bracket from Josh (DarkSider) and used a Truck-Lite 27270C lamp unit (https://amzn.to/2XwVU5K). Because it has a slightly non-standard flange, I had to adjust the tabs a bit, but it works well and is light years (pun intended) away from the cheap bulb I had previously.

Not to take away from Josh, but some aren't aware that there is another alternative. SLK Customs makes a lamp assembly for the Valkyrie; no adapter needed https://amzn.to/348Yb9J. I have not purchased or used the SLK lamp, so I have no opinion on it's quality. I'm just letting people on the board know their options. Again, not trying to cut into Josh's sales. As a matter of fact, once again, I'm a happy customer of his, and readily endorse his bracket.

You'd think that headlights would be cut and dry; a verified light output tested and ranked. But it doesn't seem to work that way. Take any light. Some will love it, and others will hate it. We all see things through our own eyes, so I guess that's why there are so many options.

The SLK headlights are literally $50 things off Alibaba. They are 50 watt fixtures, so take more to power than stock. No warranty junk that SLK doubles the price on and rips of my fellow Valkyrie brethren. The SLK guys don't even own a Valkyrie.

As a reminder, the Eagle Lights I offer are only 40 Watts (save your alternator), and have a lifetime warranty. And I have many different options available.

What brand daymaker headlights? Josh's adapter is for Eagle brand, albeit not exclusively though.

The beautiful thing about my Adapter Bracket is that it works with just about any DayMaker style headlight, which means you can choose your own. Just make sure it's this style/shape.

I Rep Eagle Lights because I have found them to provide high quality headlights that preform at competitive price (compare to JW Speaker).

Email me ValkyrieJosh@gmail.com to see what options I offer, or to purchase yours today.
