Took my bike down my ski jump drive a couple of days ago. As I made the tight turn at the top of the ski jump prior to the descent I could hear a crunching, graunching sound. I could hear it even though I had ear plugs in and a full face helmet on.

No, no, no it can't be the rear bearings. They were silky smooth at the last tire change.

No, no, no it can't be the final drive. Please don't let it be the final drive.

The sound seemed to fade away as the bike straightened up.

At the bottom of the drive I reluctantly turned the bike around and rode back up the driveway.

As I made the tight turn at the top I could hear the crunching, graunching sound AGAIN.

Darn it something's not right.

Coming to a rest in front of the garage door I see a flash of squirrel in the right mirror running across the drive behind me.

A great weight lifted from my shoulders.
The sun blazed from divided clouds.
A heavenly chorus of divine song echoed across the firmament.

It was the noise of crunching, graunching acorns I had heard.  Grin

I've got a large Pecan tree next to my driveway.....

VERY used to that crunching sound and wondering WTH is breaking, in the cars, on the bikes, etc.....

Glad that's ALL it is!

The spawn are low enough to the ground to be able to pick up the pecans for pie use!

Yup.... but then mommy and (mostly) daddy would hafta shell 'em, process 'em, make a pie, etc.....

Sad, but easier to just buy the pie, or at least the pecans.....

(While we're at it, make sure you're saying pecan properly!)

Send any extra pecans down my way!
Lesa and I are currently owned by 3 squirrels! Two little guys that were rescued and will be able to be released and another one that is now about 18 mos. old and is a non-releasable. They are amazing little guys, loving and smart!

Yep they make a fun and decent pet. Had a buddy had one that fell out of the nest and he bottle fed it and then raised it til about a year old then he set it free in his yard.  And that little guy would come visit when you walked out and called him. Loved to sit on your shoulder and have his head scratched.
