Hello, I have had this problem before and the tach recovered after a few starts, the tach was replaced new about 5 years ago when the original went bad and ended up on the wrong side of the rest guard, I used a magnet to get it back but decided to replace it. I have checked the ECM Module with another, I have checked the connections in the light bucket, I have not replaced it with the old tack yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks  Rick.

Put a volt meter on the battery with the bike running. If it’s not near, at or slightly over 14v then your alternator can be the culprit

If that is not the problem, you might have electrical problem with the ignition switch. The ignition controls three different circuits: IG1, IG2,and FAN. The IG2 controls the tachometer, taillights and head light. I had a problem with the IG2 circuit. Rather than wait for several weeks for a new ignition switch, a friend installed a separate wire with a relay and a 30-amp fuse for the IG2.

The last time I started the bike for a ride about a week ago the tach miraculously came back to life, could you give me more info on the modification to the ignition you where taking about. Thanks Rick
