I left Seneca SC around 11:00 or so expecting it to get cold by the time
I got to Cookeville TN... near this overlook in North Georgia, I realized
my heated gear wouldn't turn on...

I stopped at a friendly looking business in Hiawassee and they didn't mind if I
worked on my bike a little in their parking lot... it was easy to correct, but
not until I fiddled around taking the seats off and checking a couple of fuses
and ...

At dark it got cold, I still had an hour to go. My liner was cooking, my hands
were at that perfect neutral temperature and my feet were numb... a
weird combination... Mitch saw me roll in and ran down to make room for
my bike in the slot where his was - the place was packed. Punisher and Coot waited
until I got there and we ate at the good Mexican place right at ground zero.

Saturday some of us headed out on a ride... lots of good roads around...

A whole bunch of us went to Bigwolf and CB's house, they fixed smoked pork
smoked bologna and other good stuff. I stole this picture from Smokin Joe.

Two different football games and several rooms (one of them Wimp's GIANT room) filled with
people Saturday evening.

On Sunday a group of us left off towards Tellico Plains on 68...

We all split up at Watts Bar, Randy and I continued down 68 towards Tellico Plains. Randy
remembered seeing one end of The Joe Brown Highway on 68 not far from Tellico Plains.
We both knew The Joe Brown Highway was paved on the Murphy end, is it paved
all the way through?

The Joe Brown Highway is not paved for a distance of nine miles  Smiley ...

Thanks for the ride & pictures Mike

Few years ago, before GPS, I did that dirt road on my VTX, along with my friend on a Wing & his wife on a VTX also. This was not planned, but a mistaken right when I should have made a left...
We all survived, no drops, pretty dirty bikes, and a great adventure we still talk about.

I thought that was the case on this road when Randy was talking about it . I was thinking we took that road years ago and turned around but I wasn't sure me and Randy was talking the same road. Good report Mike see you next ride.

Did a google to see who Joe Brown was never found anything on " that " Joe Brown. I did find this the Cherokee Indians called that part of the road Leech Place   Shocked

The town of Murphy was originally called Huntington in 1835, when the Huntington Post Office began operations. The name was changed to Murphy after a politician, Archibald Murphey, who began trading along a path called the Unicol Turnpike which is presently known as the Joe Brown Highway. This area was originally inhabited by the Cherokee Indian nation and they named the area Tlanusi-yi. Translated, this means Leech Place because of a legend of a giant size leech known as Tlanusi that resided there.

Good Report Mike!  cooldude

I can't believe that you wound up on a dirt road.  Evil

I have found that if I start my bike with the gerbings plugged in and turned on that the fuse will blow.

I have learned to make sure that they are plugged in and that the controller is turned off until after I start the bike.

Thanks for posting this....always enjoy your ride reports. Is that iPad mounted to your bike, or just resting there to research some routes? Looks like a Tesla....
I know a guy who has lead me over a few dirt/gravel roads over the years... I don't follow him anymore... Smiley

My ipad is mounted in a waterproof case and onto the bike with
a regular ram mount. I use the "maps.me" app, and have off-line
Openstreetmap data. I got the phone chip option with my iPad,
only iPads with the phone chip have GPS hardware. My iPad isn't
enabled as a phone, though, I use it totally offline. I plan routes
on mymaps.google.com and export them as .kml files. Maps.me
can read .kml files.

It is like the map book is always open to the right page, there's a
you-are-here icon, and the route is an easy to see blue line, I just
try to keep the you-are-here icon on the blue line  cooldude
