We're coming up on what is usually considered the biggest food holiday of the year. Does anybody want to share their plans ?

I'll start -
For Thanksgiving Day itself, the wife and me (and MIL, and cousin, and any others) will be deep frying a turkey and prepping sides / desserts. On friday night, we will be heading to Hutchinson to celebrate a holiday dinner with my brothers / sister and sister's boyfriend and family / and their family members. All told about 25 - 30 people for dinner on saturday.

The current plan is for the family to meet up in Hawaii.

We've reserved a 5 acre beach house. Plan for standard Thanksgiving fare on Thursday, luau on Friday, Seafood menu for Saturday and not sure what is up for Sunday brunch. We have got some local bands lined up for evening entertainment. My brother says he's got a surprise for entertainment on Saturday. I think it is that McGraw guy, Tim?

Anyway, if we hit the Powerball, that is the plan. Otherwise we're just going to my wife's brother's place for the standard Thanksgiving

Work 5am-3pm. (Mostly answering questions about how do I thaw and cook a 20 lb. turkey in an hour and a half)

Tuesday will be even better. Work 3am-11am, drive Brenda to the cornea specialist in Vegas, drive home at 7pm.

I sure hope this is my final year tossing turkeys  tickedoff

Isn't that just a little short of impossible ? I mean, if you have a big enough pot to deepfry it, the turkey COULD be cooked in about an hour, but that is STARTING with an already thawed turkey...

Yes, it is. I was trying to be sarcastic. Every year I have people come in at noon and want to buy a frozen turkey and expect it to be ready for dinner. Then there is the middle aged women, that have cooked 100 turkeys in their life, but need to be told they have to remove the giblets first before cooking. I don’t know why, but thanksgiving bring out the IQ of a turkey in some people.

putting up cycles for the winter all 5 or so of them either tomorrow if I can get 1/2 day off work or for sure this Thursday thru Sunday when have off work and more time....   Cry

I knew I should have asked on Friday to take all day MOnday off work since 45 degrees and balmy for a short ride to get the stabil/seafoam in carbs good and take out battery for long winters nap since sounds like Tuesday and later stormy/windy/cold returns.  Still 1/2 day off work tomorrow hopefully if approved right when I get there I will ask is still much better than a full day at work right?   cooldude    I have 2 vacations days MUSt use up in next 4 weeks and looks like this Monday will be the warmest day, plus other co-worker is already planning on taking off 4 fricking days the next 4 weeks so that cuts my available days to take off as well.

Everything else for winter got done this weekend temps in 40's and keep procrastinating on putting up the cycles/scooters for that 'just in case' 45+ degree days still in November or December?  I took the scoot out late Saturday but still need to take the VAlk out for a spin ran out of time this weekend doing other NEED to get done stuff before winter hits more cold.

One of my kids in college works at Target Tuesday thru Friday until 2:30 a.m. at Target setting up store displays, etc. for Black Friday shopping so she is not coming home while the other kid said he might come home since college campus food court is closed and he HAS to eat right?  But, looks like Tuesday is going to get nasty weather so will see if he can make it home 3-4 hour drive which do not like as well if snowy/freezing rain in heavy interstate traffic, maybe Wednesday driving will be better/safer??

I'll be working, my fiancee will be working. Our jobs don't get holidays off.
Somebody, probably several somebodies, will be going to the burn center in turkey frying related incidents. I guess it is tradition.

Will be staying home, DW does the turkey, Daughter will bring side dishes.  7 in all for the meal.   We have the turkey and its thawing as I type.  It's going in the oven Thursday morning with my DW special stuffing.

It will be the first time in 10 years or so that I haven't had to drive over the Cascades Range to get my Mom.  Especially this year, there is a storm brewing with snow/rain.

The prior generation says they're done cooking and hosting, and my generation wants nothing to do with cooking or hosting, so we're all meeting at Furr's and paying way too much for crappy food, but we'll be together, and none of us have to cook, clean or host.....

Two part question:

Can a frozen turkey be safely thawed then refrozen?

If so, business idea - thaw a selection ahead of time, and have THAWED turkey ready to sell Thursday morning, at a premium price of course.....

Nothin much happenin here.  Wife is in WI for indeterminate time, taking care of her parents both sick, cancer and alzheimer's.  I have no close relations within 1100 miles except some cousins; they aren't close.  I don't fly anymore - subjected to the security abuse and can't carry - and don't care to travel far in the winter on the ground.  Besides I've been losing weight, 60# so far and I'm keeping it going until I'm at my hang glider pilot weight - another 40# or so.  It's a lifestyle change not a diet and I'm not gonna celebrate a gluttony holiday.  Not a fan of turkey anyway except sandwiches are OK.  I'm a beef and pork sometimes fish and chicken man.  Not to mention Thai and Viet cuisine.  I'll have some special repast but not a feast.  Probably some face time with family on the computer.  Quiet evening in the Man Cave with a fire in the insert and some good movies on the home theater.  Probably some rare tasty dessert.

In a nutshell - "Bah Humbug".  Just kidding...

No, it’s not recommended. We have fresh turkeys available @ $1.79 lb., but the snowbirds want the $.47 frozen ones.

Maybe a steak and baked potato, maybe a Stouffer's frozen turkey dinner, and a football game.

Saturday - continue hacking away at the "to do" list.
Sunday - church, then:

Monday - back to work.

Thanksgiving holiday was October 14th here.  We had maple salmon.  And ham.  And turkey.  And... and... and... zzzzzz

me. probably spend the day in the shed, tinkering around while the wife fixes dinner. also hosting relatives that i really could care less about, another reason to spend the day in the shed.
besides it would'nt be thanksgiving unless i was pissing off a relative that either brings up politics, or wants to come to my house and think they are the boss.
so i'd sooner spend my time alone. less aggravating.

News reports of possibly no balloons in the parade due to incoming storm with high winds.

nothing special,  the same old mother in laws house for turkey, etc. but without the kids off in college now not coming home having to work the holiday season retail.   I do value though black friday shopping online which is 9% of my retail shopping for the year sitting in front a computer buying 3-4 things more big ticket items I could probably live without.   This year though needing a new laptop mine still has windows vista and just looked it up have had this laptop that is falling apart, etc. since 2006 being 12+ years old now.    Wanna bet this new laptop does not even last 6 years the way they are made cheaper today but the price now is near 1/2 of what I paid for this one I have some 12+ years ago so I guess is equal if it lasts 6 years hopefully?

Now to decide on a lenovo or HP I have my eye on HP has intel i5 processor while lenovo has AMD rayzen 5 processor which is slightly faster 2.1 vs. 1.6 ghz speed.?

Dad doesn't get around so good anymore, so I'm cooking dinner at his place.  My girlfriend and a couple of our friends are going to come along.  No turkey this year, I'm doing up a prime rib.

I'm spending it at my youngest daughter's place, she and her older sister are together in the kitchen today...Wednesday...and both can cook up a storm. Beyond the meal itself, I have no plans, will probably go home. These holidays are the first time alone in 30 yrs. and I'm finding it rather difficult.

And to add to the general discomfort, it rained all night last night(meaning little sleep) and this morning it was both raining and snowing at the same time. Seriously? The weather sucks so bad up here I hear the Webster dictionary people are giving a whole page to Wisconsin to completely define both "weather & sucks".....it will comprise of one picture of snow and rain at the same time, along with the temp in big letters. And the greeter at Walmart told me "have a nice day".....BITE ME! Don't tell me what to do.  Angry  Grin

get used to the weather here in WI, it has ONLY started.  What feels REALLY REALLY good to me is come late March, early April when almost all the snowbanks are gone and temps sunny and in the 50s again.  ONLY then will it make you SMILE all over again and happy.  It seems most winter days in WI are either freezing rain/snow or gloomy/cloudy/windy out.

my least favorite time of the year is NOW when dark in the morning say 7 a.m. and dark before 5 p.m. hate driving in the near dark all the time - deer are moving all over...  Plus, putting up cycles, etc. is no fun either.

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m about to take off from the airport in San Antonio to fly up to Little Rock, Arkansas to visit the in-laws. My wife and boys drove up there earlier this week. We’ll be driving back home tomorrow.

Planning on gorging myself as is my Thanksgiving tradition and washing it down with plenty of wine. I wonder how many times my wife will kick me under the table?
