Two Smokin' Six Shooters

East Texas

WWW
« on: November 25, 2019, 08:25:23 AM »

I just got a new girlfriend that my wife can get along with. She's a 2000 1500c (standard) in red and black. I've had a few before that my wife didn't like (old Goldwing, Yamaha's, Kawasaki Drifter, etc.). But she's digging this one. When I got down to 4 choices I let my wife pick the one she wanted.

Her choice came from south of Houston, has 33,000 miles on her, and seems to have been "put up" for a few years.  I've put 400 miles on her in the last week to shake her out. Found a fork leak but nothing else so far. She has supposedly been serviced - brakes, oil, air filter. I know the brake fluid is new, so I'll believe them.  It's easier to fix the bike than the wife.

Here's a link to a picture.  I couldn't get the picture site here to work for me.

https://tonybluegoat.blogspot.com/2019/11/2000-honda-valkyrie-journal.html

Anyway, thanks for letting me on board. I live in East Texas.

Welcome.  cooldude

Here you go.

When I got down to 4 choices I let my wife pick the one she wanted.

To each their own, but that's a dangerous precedent (says the guy with the pink bathroom)  Grin

This almost always fixes a valk fork leak (maybe not forever but for a good long while)(pulling the lower guards with a 10mm wrench makes it easer)

Welcome from BC.
I've been touring 2 up with the Mrs for the past 18 years on my Interstate... definitely a plus that it's also her favorite bike I've owned over our 38 years together  Smiley

Thanks all. and for the Postimage info.  I feel welcomed.

It'll be raining, then cold, then raining and cold so I took her out one more time today (leaking fork and all) for about 200 miles. I took a pic!

I call it "Two Smokin' Six Shooters"

Thanks I'll try it... I live on a dirt road... not a ... "what a cute dirt road" dirt road... a "What the F*&^, I'm not driving my car down that!" dirt road.  My brother babies his Harley Dyna Glide up and down it.  I slalom, stand up on the pegs, etc. Gotta own it!  But it is dusty."

Welcome to the asylum. If you have access to an antique roll of 35mm camera film . . . pull out a piece about six or eight inches long. Matching the curve of the film to the fork tube . . . push the film strip in/up under the fork seal and give it a see-saw motion - up/down -  around the fork tube in question. Might be dried-up bug bones in there causing the leak. What else to do with left over 35mm camera film.  Cool

+1, pull the dust seal down first though.

Have used 35mm film twice with perfect results.
I cut a "hook" into the end of the film, insert it and work the hook under the spot of the leak then work the film back out. Should dislodge whatever is in there holding the seal off the seal surface.

Try the film if you want.  For me, the 35mm film got instantly oily and could not be gripped (pushed or pulled), and crumpled up repeatedly.  And my leak was back in no time.  YMMV

When I saw the picture I thought that if she like the Standard that much you may be in for another buy if she gets to sit on an Interstate.   Smiley

Welcome from Washington.

Good Looking Bike.

I Had a for seal leak on one of my Valks... The UBB (ugly black bike)

I was skeptical of the Seal Mate tool but it worked. I put the bike on the lift to take the pressure off the forks. Then pulled the front fender off.. it was so easy.

Sounds good. I'll do that too.  The tool will arrive tomorrow. Thanks.

So that's 3... on a motorcycle. I've traveled the world but that didn't count... no motorcycle.

None of my other bikes were this comfortable.
