Did you jump to an obvious conclusion after reading the title of this post? Well, if you did, then you are most likely mistaken... I need to properly set the stage for that assertion... and, perhaps, to indicate its possible validity.
Contrary to personal preference and general knowledge, I do keep a half-open eye on current events. That necessarily requires reading/viewing the news, as unreliable and distasteful as that surely is. Because of the obvious biases and slanting, I am required to seek various wide-ranging alternative sources, so a remotely accurate data base can hopefully be established upon which I can then interpret and decide what I think the 'truth' might actually be... From that, I must proceed to attempt to project that 'quasi-understanding' upon my near-term future view of things... all of that to facilitate 'planning', yet another unpleasant but clearly necessary task in life.
Because I also enjoy writing and posting my thoughts, great care with my published words must be given to hopefully ensure accuracy and the avoidance of insulting or the giving of offense to the audience... lest I be thought of and/or labeled as 'pinko' or 'deplorable', or possibly some other unsavory pejorative. This requires, in turn, use of vocabulary, references, analogies, and metaphors acceptable to all or, at a minimum, most members of that target audience. In other words, I must worship at the alter of 'political correctness'...
Not so long ago, I saw an article about one of our 'celebrity elites' in the cultural 'Mecca' of Hollywood. In that news bulletin/inspiring revelation it was announced to us unworthy heathens that a budding young starlit in the undisputed center of all wisdom no longer considered herself 'single'... She instead claimed to be 'self-partnered'.
So, in an attempt to get a jump on what I'm sure will be a future trend, plus in the interest of 'doing the right thing', that is, complying with and conforming to all of the rigid, multi-tiered, intractable rules, restrictions, requirements, and limits of 'free expression', I have acquiesced to PC and reclassified, and hopefully accurately clarified, my own personal 'marital status' designation. "And now you know... the rest of the story..." (A throwback quote from a by-gone era... way-back when 'reporting' and 'editorializing' were not synonymous.)

I guess self-partnering was OK as a young lad, but once I began to experience real partnering it sure became a heck of a lot more fun...
I self-identity myself as still being a young man...unfortunately every time I get a good look in a mirror I'm knocked back into the real world...
I can think of myself in any manner that I choose, however it's how others think of me that really counts...

Mike, I hear ya, Mike! I've been fortunate to have experienced a couple of 'real partnerships', and I do know of what you speak. As my thinking and direction in life changed, indeed as I as a person evolved, my needs also changed. Relationship changes occurred for me at different stages of my 'journey', and I was again most fortunate in having the opportunity to respond. I wouldn't take anything for those treasured periods in my life... Neither would I trade my present circumstance to go back... DDT |

I thought it was funny, but another side of me was a bit offended. She was a GP who checked my prostate, what did she know?
