Holy crap.

Hot rod 700HP Benz, radar detectors, laser jammers, police scanner,  a thermal imaging camera mounted to a gimbal on the roof to look for police cars, and 18 scout vehicles rendezvoused with them at points along the way to drive up ahead and check for speed traps, traffic and other obstacles.

They followed the so-called northern route along I-80, I-76, I-70 and I-15 at an average speed of 103 mph, and hit a top speed of 193 mph at an undisclosed location.

So no one was killed or injured (which is good).

But did they eliminate in their pants?

I wonder what Lewis and Clark would have thought about it?

Good question.

It (interweb) says NASCARs get between 2-5 mpg.

It also says the current 98-octane 260 GTX unleaded racing fuel now in use is to be replaced with Sunoco Green E15.  I bet they love that.  Why not make them take the wife and kids in the backseat?   crazy2

And 360 million gallons-plus of gas is used daily in the U.S.  That seems like a lot (considering I only fill my truck (24gal) maybe 4 times a year, excluding trips).  I actually burn more gas in my bikes than the truck.  Retirement is good; commuting sucks.

I was reading this yesterday.  A whole lot of laws and even felonies broken to pull this off.  This is why they are a bit obtuse about it.  I did not even know about this outlaw event until Richard Rawlings off Gas Monkey and his business partner Dennis Collins talked about setting the record at that time in 2007 of about 88 mph in 32 hours.  Richard talks about trying again in a Dodge.   I remember reading Wilt Chamberlains autobiography back in the 70s of a few times during the off season he would race his Bentley across the country by himself for fun.  I seem to remember something in the 35 to 37 hour range, but could be wrong.  The Big Dipper also stated some other feats that may be world records, but best not to go into this.
