Few years ago when I met Bill (hook), he told me the story of Ali & Bruce.
Glad it got posted again and I could read it myself!

OSS,

WOW! Thanks for the memories!!! Gawd, what an amazing time that was... I got all choked up again just revisiting that thread! Every aspect of that tale was a wonderful experience... First, the problem occurring: It served to remind me that even the darkest of clouds can have a bright silver lining!

Meeting Terry Nickel and reaching a 'hand-shake' deal... I was impressed by Terry's openness and obvious integrity. Simply trying to make the most of a bad situation, I felt relief and comfort by our exchange...

His willingness to return ALI to 'her' rider... His generosity and grace blew me away, as it did for so many other riders around the continent! That can be demonstrated by the volume of replies to our threads, as well as on the Volusia board, and by the many contributions in various ways to the effort.

The emotion of seeing her for the first time in nearly a year under the tent in Asheville! That first ride following our reunion! The adventure that followed all of that when Terry visited us in Wetumpka, AL.

It didn't end there, either... The following summer several of us returned to Calgary to have CALI find her way 'home', as he'd elected to ride her back to Calgary instead of flying home, as we'd originally agreed.

From all of that, still again last summer, Troutdude, Water-bug and I returned yet again to Calgary for yet another adventure! This all truly has been the 'gift' that keeps on giving!!! Really good to revisit this thread and recall... all the good that came from a fubar out yonder on the road...

Thanks, Oss!  That was a fun read.  The stuff of legend.

A great story about a chance meeting between a couple of high-character characters - each heroes in their own right, a bunch of others who are proud to have played even a small part, and a whole lot more who watched in awe.  I know that no one who was there in Asheville will ever forget the reunion.

Still proud of my Rocky Mountain Honda Powerhouse mug!

Terry,

So true! Funny, I think I've become one of 'those guys'... you know the ones... They seem to delight in name-dropping, exploit recitation, tales of exotic venues visited, sights seen, "Hey, look at me! Ain't I something?!"

Not trying to grandstand, but among the most astounding aspects of my journey has been the curious collage of characters I've met along the way. And, so many of them have not only been interesting, some have been downright 'outrageous characters', nearly all have been good folks, and some have actually touched my life in special ways... Oss probably fits into most, if not all, of those categories!

When some folks' eyes start to glaze-over, I take that tell-tale sign as time to ease-off with my diatribe. It should be acknowledged, as you have done, that that special person did indeed help with our big adventure. Oss played a largely unheralded but no less significant role in our amazing tale, and I'll always have a good thought for him... and no small amount of gratitude!

Aside from setting-up the PayPal account for us, he also provided a large amount of emotional support for yours truly through PMs, advice, positive thoughts, etc. A deep thinker in his own rite, it is always good to see something from him arrive in the 'Messages' portion of our board. He's also been very good about writing about other things, too, but in this story alone, he did indeed go 'above and beyond'!

Thank you for bringing this up!!!
