They had an active duty Sailor at Pearl Harbor the other day that was the active shooter. Did his terrible deed(s) and then took himself out. When the active shooter goes deceased whether at his hands or the hands of others it leaves far too many unanswered questions. Prayers up for all victims from both shootings.  angel RIDE SAFE.

Our (Americans') insistence on refusing to profile (assume) is a fatal flaw.  It happens again and again and we refuse to draw a conclusion because it doesn't fit our picture of fairness to which we believe everyone is entitled.

One question - why have the media taught us to use the term, "active shooter"?  Isn't a shooter by definition active?  What is an inactive shooter?  Would a dead shooter be an inactive ex-shooter?

By the way, there were many, many more people killed on the highways between here and Pensacola but they weren't newsworthy because they didn't involve a firearm.  Get the drift?

Shooting ten people is a crime.  It is wrong.  Is it somehow more tragic for those people than for the families of those randomly and unexpectedly slain on the flyways?

Just at the Naval Base a month ago for an interment ceremony at the Barrancas National cemetery.  Blue Angles were practicing for the annual air show taking place the day we left.

So here are my questions:

What kind of vetting and/or clearance does a foreign military person get before being allowed to attend a US military training course.  Do we rely on the foreign country's vetting, or do we do our own, and how good is it?

Was this a committed Mohammedan attack, or did this guy just blow a gasket over some perceived mistreatment, or was he failing the flight course and about to be sent home in shame?

Were the targets (besides the cops) random opportunity, or chosen?

Is it true that many US military pilots think a number of Saudi pilots are unsafe and get passed through US military flight courses because of pressure to support the Saudi's as an important US ally in the Middle East?  (Historically, many of these students are from the extended Royal family, and this course often has as many as 20 Saudis in each class.)

As a foreign national here under this training circumstance, I don't think he was entitled to possess a firearm/ammo.  Firearms are reportedly not allowed by any students in flight training. So where did he get his pistol and ammo?  How many more loaded mags did he have on him?

And an observation;  Two cops got wounded because they charged right in, within minutes of the warning.  No standing around outside establishing a perimeter.  Great big cudos to the cops.   cooldude  Good thing, because the perp did not shoot himself at the first sign of armed LEO response (as is often the case), and had to be put down to stop him.

And remember this:
The hijackers in the September 11 attacks were 19 men affiliated with al-Qaeda. Fifteen of the 19 were citizens of Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one from Lebanon, and one from Egypt.  The hijackers were organized into four teams, each led by a pilot-trained hijacker with three or four "muscle hijackers," who were trained to help subdue the pilots, passengers, and crew.

It was bad enough they all got VA driver's licenses.  But I don't think any of those pilots were trained at Pensocola.  It would be good if that never happened.

+2 what Jess said

I have often wondered that very thing, the "royal family" is pretty damn big, and it may be that many would never qualify if not for that Oil-Money-Ally angle

Along similar lines Jess while I was in my RAG outfit-VS-41 N A S North Island Calif-Our U S N Pilots were training a large group from some South American Country in our older Grumman S-2s. Having worked with some of the Pilots that were doing the actual training I learned that over 70% of them while already rated Pilots in their country would have washed out of the Basic Pilot Training. BUT they-USN Pilots-had already been given the Word. Unless they were in imminent danger of crashing they would pass the transition course. Those same Pilots mentioned some of the hops got INTERESTING!  Roll Eyes I remember vividly all the warnings on the A/C going to South America be reprinted in Spanish. Have Zero idea What the vetting process was then!  Lips Sealed RIDE SAFE.

When I was working, we had to keep up with assigned computer based training courses that came alone.  I was flipping through the courses one day and I saw this one that said Active Shooter Training.  I was thinking to myself hey, I'm an active shooter, I'm out at the range all the time.  Maybe this is about marksmanship tips.  So I signed up.  Wasn't anything like I had expected.  Should have been called how to hide from an active shooter.

not all about hiding from an active shooter but running away as far as possible OUT of the building AWAY from it all. If unable to hide or better to run away, best to shut the lights off and do not hide but be by the door (2-3 people if possible) and if he/she comes in hopefully ONLY ONE person, take the gun away while pinning the shooter down somehow, but gun control comes first and foremost, thus the need usually for 2-3 people brave enough to do it vs. just hiding.

that is what most I got out of active shooter training at my former job since we had an active shooter about 1 mile from my work 2 years ago he killed some and he ended up getting gunned down as well.

we were not suppose to let anyone in our building during that lockdown for a few hours, but I had UPS/FED EX deliveries coming in and  had to get stuff off their truck.

I tell you what though,  what around me is becoming a weekly occurrence is age 13-15 year old kids stealing cars parked running (idiots who do that are dumb if you ask me) going for joy rides and then either trashing/wrecking them or ditching them miles away after having their fun with the car.  If not that, these young kids 13 to 15 or so shooting people at school or neighborhood with BB guns.  All over the news lately both happening all the time around me.  These young punks must not have parents who will take a belt to them whipping them brutally like in the good old days.    It is those same dimwit parents who will blame the police, etc. for shooting their young kids who do stupid stuff like this since most BB guns nowadays look like REAL guns.

Jess,
I can't speak to what is happening today but, I can speak to what occurred while I was attending RW flight school in the Army.   There were a few "foreign nationals" in training at Ft Rucker while I was there.   As I remember, there were four in my class.   Of those four, two were from middle eastern countries, one from Central America and the other I don't remember where he came from.   During the Instrument Flight phase, the Central American student and one of the middle eastern student pilots could not pass the required (actual) check rides.  IOWs, they could not navigate under Instrument Flight Rules and safely fly or land the aircraft.   Both were "recycled" to the next class behind my class.   Neither ever passed and both rejoined our class within a week and continued training.   Their respective governments had waived their and our standards so as to allow these "students" to proceed with training.   I doubt the standards have changed and have no doubt such waivers are still being allowed.

Story on the news this morning - recent Naval Academy grad (who was shot several times and died from his wounds) advised the LEOs where to find the shooter.

6 More SAUDI JIHADIS Arrested Over Pensacola Naval Base SHOOTING INCLUDING 3 WHO FILMED THE ATTACK
The men were detained near the scene of the shooting, which took place at Naval Air Station in Pensacola early Friday morning. It is currently unclear why they have been taken into custody.

Three of the six Saudis were seen filming the entire incident as it unfolded, a source told The New York Times on Friday evening.

When you let the wolf into the pen.................................................

In July 2015, Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez carried out an attack at two military installations in Tennessee that killed four Marines and a sailor, with the FBI concluding that the violence was inspired by a "foreign terrorist group."

Four years before that, Major Nidal Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded more than 30 others at Fort Hood.

According to what I've been told from my retired Navy friends is that there are over 5,000 foreign soldiers being trained at military bases. Several of those are going thru flight school and electronics program right here in Pensacola. This Saudi Nationalist student had his friends film him according to reports.  tickedoff         I agree with some of the others here who wondered why we are training these folks after several other of these terrorist killings at our bases over the last several years.  uglystupid2

The only thing I left off my original post above was the question of copycat, since there was just the Pearl Harbor shooting several days earlier.  And today's news says the dickweed was watching terror videos the night before.

Fellow (Saudi) students filming the shooting sounds like co-conspirators and accessories to murder to me.  FL can light them up (in 20 or 30 years), or we could give them back to the Kingdom and they could be beheaded by New Years.  Though I would not want them to be thought of as religious martyrs by the Saudi populace either.   But nothing more in the news about those guys today.

Very interesting write-up in the American Thinker on Jihad and Criminality: Inseparable Bedfellows

Interesting on what "the other side" thinks of the recent shooting here in Pensacola. Ship these ****heads home please.

https://youtu.be/U5UchPco8es

"Palestinian Sheikh Nael Mossran said in a Friday sermon in Rafah, Gaza that Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, the Saudi Air Force officer who shot and killed three U.S. servicemembers at the Pensacola Naval Station in Pensacola, Florida on December 6, 2019, had felt overcome with compassion for the Islamic nation and that the last thing Alshamrani said had been that America is a nation of evil. Sheikh Mossran said: “People started to paint this young man as a criminal and calling him evil, criminal, and backward… as if America spread flowers in every country its air force has been through.” He said that the United States is waging an organized crusade against Islam that can only be stopped by an organized Islam and by Jihad for the sake of Allah. The sermon was delivered at the Al-Huda Mosque in Rafah and uploaded to Sheikh Mossran's YouTube channel on December 22, 2019."
