Finally relief  cooldude

The House of Representatives approved the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act, or the TRACED Act, earlier this month. Now with the Senate voting unanimously to pass it, the bill is on its way to President Donald Trump's desk for a signature.

The TRACED Act (Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence Act)was sponsored by Senators John Thune (R-SD), Ed Markey (D-MA), and Roger Wicker (R-MS). Its purpose is to combat robocalls with stronger deterrents. As the volume of illegal calls has increased, so has the attention of regulators. They are especially concerned about calls from scammers who target vulnerable people, such as the elderly, to steal their personal information.

This legislation placing as much $10,000 per call.fine upon those behind what are obviously unwanted robocalls will reduce the incentive for companies to widely cast upon society their self-serving agenda. Before I declare this a significant win for consumers I want to see whether the Federal Communications Commission will or can actually enforce this law and get the job done.

The TRACED Act requires phone companies to block robocalls at no charge to customers. They must also adopt call authentication technologies so carriers can verify that incoming calls are legitimate before they reach consumers’ phones. This builds on preventative measures taken by the FCC under Chairman Ajit Pai, who recently announced that the commission would move to criminalize international robocalls and spam texts.

I got a message on my machine just this week.

It said because of suspicious activity,  my soc sec card had been suspended, but not to worry, all I had to do to fix it up was to call this number.

I didn't believe them.

How about a legislative bill to outlaw all telephone sales and hucksterism period?  (unless you are already doing business with them)   And I don't care if some jobs are lost; those jobs suck anyway.

I like that idea !  Can I borrow it ?

Along with the $10K fine I like the bill more better if they threw in Drawing and Quartering in the public square.

The number calling Not in my call list gits ignored. Some calls-a VERY small percentage-now and again leave a voice mail. I've been told at various times-some with rather stern warnings-that I am way behind in a car payment I never had or my daughters college loans are behind or my Social Security information needs updating or I've won sweeps stakes worth in excess of 10 and a half million dollars U S or I'm entitled to a weekend of a free time share thingy or-well ya git the idea. And as of yet the guys with the stainless steel bracelets or the butterfly nets and straight jackets or lawyers with big brief cases have NOT shown up at my front door.  2funny And fer now at this point in time i are some what coherent.  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

With a landline, I don't answer any calls I don't know the number or identified caller.

Two phones (up and down stairs) ring 4 times and then go to a machine.

For every time I answer, I don't answer 10-20 times.

I want a $1000 fine (against any commercial caller I'm not already doing business with, legal or illegal) for every unwanted ring inside my house I have to listen to.  It's noise pollution and privacy violation.

I don't answer these either, since I'm still using my NC numbers in KC.

In fact the only numbers I answer are in my contacts. Everybody else gets ignored. If you want to talk to me - text / email about who you are, why you're calling, and what number you will be calling from.

Calls from my exchange - NPANXX (AT&T's description of first 6) - go unanswered BECAUSE they spoofed my exchange.  Does that work with ANYBODY?  There's nobody in my exchange who is a legitimate caller and very few on the Front Range.  Be anonymous on the caller ID and be screened through phone mail.  There's also several numbers that are flagged as solicitors - if I answer they will get a blue rant and cuss out.  Other unknown numbers out of area generally get answered at least momentarily until I know why they are calling - as I'm running a business I can't use a white list.

We were just talking about this yesterday. A friend of ours husband died a couple months ago. She said she got a telemarketer using his # to call her. Kind of freaked her out.

It would not be hard with today's technology for the FCC to stop this. But they don't.

My brother Bovine told me he got one of those calls once,so he starts talking more and more quietly until he is sure they have turned their headset as far up as it would go all the time he's walking out to the garage. One there he turns on the ignition to his Valk and hits the air horn with the phone near it. I laughed my ars off......
