Just me again. The spousal unit was taking most of the kids to an indoor trampoline/indoor skydiving/rock climbing etc place today and I took Blake out for some one on one time.....

We headed out on the Interstate this morning, got some McBreakfast and headed out to our land.

The kids had been begging to shoot an AR15, but they just physically aren't big enough to shoulder one properly yet, but I looked around a bit, and decided to put a brace on my AR pistol so it would be kid-sized, and voila! AR15 set up for 8 year olds!

Lovely 70ish degree day for a ride, hour or so after leaving home we arrived at my land:

(Departing from home pic)

I'm such a slave driver, making him carry one of the folding chairs to the shooting area (While I lugged multiple guns, another chair, ammo, etc. etc. etc.)

Blake shouldering and getting a feel for the AR "pistol":

(I know Jess..... I know.....)

I carefully and safely recorded video of the first time he ever pulled the trigger on an AR15..... That grin tells me it won't be the last (It wasn't, he went through almost 100 rounds today alone!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8dsqt-8hRY

While we still had hearing protection on I did some draw from concealment and fire drills with my CCW, and he asked if he could try it, so I loaded a single round at a time and let him shoot my .40 S&W XD Sub-Compact a bit:

Once again, the grin tells the story.....

After that we put the hearing protection away, got out the cans, and we both shoot many hundred rounds of .22 just popping steel, cans, reactive targets, etc.....

While packing up Blake was proud of his "I'll turn the folding chair into a hat" transport method and asked that I take a pic, so:

From there, I'd noticed I was out of "social work" ammo for my carry gun, and I'm rather particular about the brand and model that I carry (Hornady Critical Defense), couldn't find it anywhere, so we headed from our land 30 miles south of the Dallas Metromess to Cabela's 30 miles north of the Dallas Metromess... Along the way we stopped at Chuy's since he was hungry and has some delicious Tex Mex:

(Cabela's was out of the ammo, but Academy had it.)

Then it was just get home. And deal with the siblings and mommy when they got home...

But, a wonderful 200ish mile day ride overall with one of my boys, some riding, some shooting, some eating, great experience...

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I mean it just as much every time - This. We'll. Defend!

Looks like a great day.  cooldude

Takes me back to when I used to take my boy out to the farm to shoot gophers. He’s 22 now but still loves to come with me to do that. He was a little younger than what yours is...I was too cheap to buy him a child sized .22...so he got a regular full sized .22 and a bipod. Kid killed hundreds of gophers with it, despite the length of pull being several inches too long.  Grin

Keep up the bragging!
Bikes, guns, and kids make a great thread!

I’d partially collapse the stock on mine, (if I had one)  Roll Eyes so my grandkids can comfortably shoot it.

Funny you should get so specific.... The new bench vise I posted in the "Vices" thread was purchased specifically so I'd have a solid mounting platform for a sight pushing tool so I could replace the burned out tritium sights on my .40 Sub-Compact daily carry...

(The radioactive gas in those sights goes dim after about 15 years...)

am sure Serk's adventures and stories with all 4 of his kiddies will live on for a long while yet.   From taking them shooting, fishing, atving, and then onto as older daughter cycling together as I did my kid last few years age 16 thru 18.  That first year he put on the 1997 honda magna 750 near 6000 miles could NOT get him off that thing age 16/17 every single night on it and ripping it up with him on weekends all over southern WI, him the only one in high school with a cycle.  I was sort of surprised he did not want to ride it to school as a junior and senior much he said not really worth it driving it 1 mile thru town to the other side of town takes longer to let the carbs warm up than it was worth he said, and I agreed not worth it for 1 mile ride is all twice daily.

We did a 20 mph roll on up to around 80 mph on a rural road in the country no cops around and me on Valk I/S and him on 97 magna kept up neck and neck before I pulled away at the end just a tad but 0 to 60 mph that little 4 cylinder has some snot quicker than you think!   cooldude

Now both kids in college 3+ hours away they only come home couple times per  year is all for a day or two.  Or, we go up to see them when basically they keep moving from dorm to house to apt. living will again for both moving yet again this summer and fall.

Not to change the subject but Cookie? You are correct about the acceleration of the V-4 Magna 750s. They are amazing until around 80-90mph then the Valk's torque and valve area start working!

I shot a lot of .22's and more as a tot and have a high frequency hearing loss---a quick review shows a .22LR  is some 160 db's where much around a 100 is loud/troublesome--maybe keep the muffs/ear plugs in----I use them mowing the grass/weed eating etc and tamp the stereo down too....my favorite memories were hunting and shooting with my dad--he passed in '98 from cancer--my son and I found a "day hunting lease" that folks brought everything to..he's in the Army now and I guess gets to play with really big toys cooldude

The suppressors make the .22 hearing safe... And without hearing protection on it makes it a lot safer since the kids can clearly hear my instruction...

(And yeah, that was the primary reason I jumped through the hoops to get those suppressors...)

Put together a AR15 pistol with adjustable arm brace SBA3 in 22 LR with  10" barrel and it is fun for everyone of any size and capability. Use a 22 can muzzle brake to move the sound and flash away from you.

Or so I have been told.....

maybe I need to shoot more rounds thru my couple of .22's.  I never thought the BANG was loud enough to matter on hearing loss?  Then again,  I never shot a 100 rounds in one day either more like 20-30 tops per outing.

Just wish I had land AWAY from EVERYONE that I can do what I want when I want with no neighbors or town rules to follow.  Serk is ONE lucky fella!

There was a huge 80 foot long mobile home on some acreage with woods adjoining a county forest up north of me 3 hours right along the ATV trails but was asking 180k for it all, out of my comfort zone to buy would have to sell the house to make a go of it and over 2 hours to work one way with not many jobs around that area could not swing it.  Unfortunately, only way to swing something like that is when either my mom or mother in law pass and hope that is not anytime soon.
