So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Being neutral on caring who won that game last night, I have to say Ohio State got robbed on the called back fumble recovery touchdown.

I watched that game twice, once last night and again this morning.   The receiver clearly had control for three steps and the defender knocked the ball out of his grasp.   I really don't care who won the game, I think LSU will kick either team's ass but, that was a bad call that changed the momentum of the game and gave Clemson the advantage.   Replay clearly shows the catch, the possession, the steps taken and the fumble.

No wonder the refs wear prison stripes.

A good number of calls went against the Buckeyes.  They owned Clemson right up to the targeting call, and it went downhill after that.

You look at the game stats you see how evenly matched they were.

To me, the difference in the game was running quarterbacks.  Neither Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields are really known for running, but Lawrence took off a number of times and gave it everything he had every time (like watching a giraffe run).  On the other hand, Fields ran on a number of designated QB runs, and looked like he hated it every time his number was called; he'd go 2-3 yards and drop (like he's telling them to not call his number for running).

Lawrence ran with courage every time (16 times for 107), Fields never did (14 times for 13 yards, and his 320 passing yards could not win the game).

In a game of two great and evenly matched teams, this was the difference.

The interesting story to me is all these transfer quarterbacks.  LSU's Joe Burrow (Heisman Trophy,  Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O'Brien Award, SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and multiple SEC single season records).  He sat for two years on Ohio State's bench, and then transferred to LSU because he wanted to play.  The OSU bonehead move of the century it seems to me.

Who throws for 7 touchdowns and 450 yards in the first half (against a great 12-1 Oklahoma team)?  Of course, LSU has the complete package, not just a great quarterback.

I guess payback is a _itch since the Badgers could have beaten the buckeyes if a few bad calls went their way as well?  Just saying.... Lips Sealed    even though the Badgers did not wake up after halftime during their fairytale butt whopping they put on in the first half vs. the Buckeyes.

That is for sure Ron. I did not care who won but that call sucked and did change the momentum of the game.

Ohio State got beaten.

As to the fumble or incomplete pass call I'm going to trust the professionals on that.  They spent some time looking at it.

OU and LSU?  Wow!  Oklahoma hasn't been owned like that for a long, long time.

As of August 30, 2018 - for College Football -

From : https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/8/30/17481378/ncaa-catch-rule-nfl-differences

"Secures control of a live ball in flight before the ball touches the ground, and touches the ground in bounds with any part of his body, and then maintains control of the ball long enough to enable him to perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc."

Thats not all -

"If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent) he must maintain complete and continuous control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or in the end zone. This is also required for a player attempting to make a catch at the sideline and going to the ground out of bounds. If he loses control of the ball which then touches the ground before he regains control, it is not a catch. If he regains control inbounds prior to the ball touching the ground it is a catch."

"If the player loses control of the ball while simultaneously touching the ground with any part of his body [except his feet, of course], or if there is doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is not a catch. If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball, even if it touches the ground, will not be considered loss of possession. "

"If the ball touches the ground after the player secures control and continues to maintain control, and the elements above are satisfied, it is a catch."

Three trips to the red zone resulting in 9 points is why the Buckeye's lost--give credit to the Clemson defense.  Ruffing the punter didn't help either.  That, with the pass interference on the subsequent play or the one thereafter, put Clemson in position to score a touchdown from what should have been a punt around their own five.

As a whole, both teams played well and let me repeat, I don't really care who won.   I simply disagree with the fumble/touchdown call back call.   Calling that catch a non-reception and calling back the touchdown changed everything from that moment on for the rest of the game.   Had that score counted, the other situations may have never occurred.   It's in the books and one team moves on and the other goes home.   Again, who won isn't the issue to me.   I just happen to disagree with the "Professional" refs.   Their vote counts, mine doesn't.

cooldude Totally in agreement on that call, I feel it was a blown call.  Shocked  I'm not an "O"State fan and they should of scored TD's in the Red Zone. I really think that LSU will win the Championship. Infact I think they could win by 2 touchdowns easy over Clemson.  Roll Eyes
