Got the fat lady up on my jack and the E-bay mounted jack adapter for the winter. Was told would help prevent flat spots on tires from sitting a period of time. Also makes it handy for moving my bike around to have more space in the garage. Also will be handy for changing out the front tire while not riding season.

If you are going to leave it up on a jack for an extended time, make sure you use the emergency stops and some straps.

And make sure the jack will survive the winter if it's sitting on the safety stop.
Nothing worse than a jack that gets stuck because you can't lift it to free the safety.
Been there once. That was enough.

I’ve never heard that modern tires get flat spots. Couldn’t you just move the bike every couple weeks?

The dealers park them on the tires. I make sure the pressure is correct.
What about the front and rear suspension whith the wheel weight hanging
during the storage.

That's the issue that I see, especially with 20yo suspension. I like the idea of jacking up, but just so the tires still touch, but not completely unloading the suspension. If the safety notch on your jack is not available at that low height, just do what Mike does and stick a 2 X 4 through the jack scissors and let it down on that. My two interstates sit on the side stands most of the winter, with a few short runs. I've never had flat spots, but boy I've had cold slippery tires. |

Concrete can absorb moisture over a period of time. I've heard of putting cardboard or carpet under the tires when being stored for a long time.

Just bring your bike to me here in Florida and I’ll ride it every few days all winter for you. Then you will have even more room in the garage.  |

I was curious why I had heard that. Makes since that the concrete holds moisture. Noticed some dealers do park the tires on carpet pads. May be just not to mark the floors up. I have the m/c jack and adapter mentioned. Works great for me.  |

No not in my Valkyrie's case. I rode a 1,000 miles after I bought it. I didn't baby it either. The flat spot on the front tire didn't go away. The bike didn't get ridden much in 3 years before I bought it but in the end both tires were crap. In my case the tires were old as well, tread was fine but too old and the bike had sat for a while. BTW brand new Avon's are much better than what was on the bike. I'm kind of glad I gave the old tires a run before I replaced them. Hard to explain, the bike felt pretty good but with new tires, it smoothed right out. I'm liking my Valkyrie. |
