Great drummer!  Brain cancer took him today at 67.  RUSH was a very full sounding and tight 3 man band, and Neil was their heartbeat. He had a humongous set and could play the hell out of it!

Do yourself a favour and read his book Ghost Rider, he lost his daughter and wife and took off on his motorcycle to figure things out. Great read.

My music is so good, my neighbor threw a brick through the window so he could hear it better.  Grin

When I played in a band years ago we did some Rush songs. 'Tom Sawyer" and "Subdivisions" to name a couple. The drummer Hobie wouldn't play "Ton Sawyer" unless he could play it exactly how Neil did. He hit it perfectly. That song is a very technical song to play. Neil didn't play each verse or chorus the same.

RIP to the greatest rock drummer who ever hit the skins.....

Very cool story I found today.  How Richard Foster in an article he submitted to Road and Track Magazine back in 1973 led to the inspiration for Neil Peart to write and record Red Barchetta.  And then almost 35 years later they meet up and take a motorcycle trip across West Virginia's back roads on Adventure bikes in 2007 .

Got that book years ago.
May have to dig it up and read again now.
Godspeed, Neil.

I'm still playing but we don't do any Rush. Geddy Lee is an animal and I'm a bass player of over 40 years. I play with my fingers, and in order to do like he do,  you need a pick. Leaves me out.

I used to do vocals for a couple diferent bands.  No RUSH, Geddy vocals were not physically possible.

Guy has 2 brains. One to sing with the other to play with. Tough act to follow when trying to emulate that band!

I have that book, and read it a few (maybe 10?) years ago.  A good read, but I had to skim over a few passages of his introspective musings; it got to be too much.  Maybe I'll appreciate those parts more some time in the future.

I re-read it again recently, and I found that the parts I found stagnant still were, years later. Overall, the book is good, but I agree with Gryphon Rider. Some of it is too much.
