Put new tires and a new windshield in the Valk and headed to Crashed Toys in Dallas. About 300 miles round trip. To look at a 1500 Vulcan I’m bidding on for Wednesday’s auction on Copart.

Nice ride and the bike is in better shape than I thought.

Cool way to spend the day. What’s the Vulcan worth?

I'm bidding $250. If it goes for more than that it isn't worth the trouble. They charge auction fees and gate fees, so $250 is more like $400 in the end. The bike just has a few dents and scratches and a broken mirror. Worth it for $400... to me at least. My wife snorts every time I start talking about buying another bike, so to her I would guess it's worth nada.

"what's it worth?" I see things a little differently than many. What is a street rideable 1500 cc cruiser worth? Some people want a new one.  The cheapest 1500 cc bike on Craisglist is over $3,000. I'm just goofing around. So to me it's worth $500 to have some fun. The auction listing says it's worth $1,200.  I'm bidding on it because I think the low estimated value plus it's age might make it get overlooked.

Plus it's a cool way to spend the day.

tonybluegoat . Interesting site. Even though bikes with salvage titles do not bring as much as clean titles. For those prices if some one wanted to buy one to fix and keep or fix and sell they could make money.

Outside of Texas in most states a salvage title stays with a bike even though it has been fully repaired.  It tends to hold the price down on such a bike.

The Vulcan 1500s were noted for a plastic oil pump drive gear failure. Keep that in mind.
The 1600 Vulcan was good to go. Top heavy beasts but smooth runners and good low end torque for a twin.

Good to note. Thanks. I had an 800 Drifter once. Good toque, terrible cornering clearance with the boards. But a fun bike nonetheless.

Far as salvage titles go this applies to Missouri cages. Yer results might be different. When I wuz cage huntin I found in Willow Springs a nice used Hyundai. Ran out good no major rattles miles was around 80G. Owner of the car lot said salvage title. I went up the street couple blocks and talked to my ins agent. Shelter ins. I would pay the same premiums but only reiceve half face value of the ins. That was on a public liability Mo. minimums only. Needless to say i backed away from that particular deal. RIDE SAFE.

yah, but on a vulcan 1500cc doubt insurance would give  you over 2K for it anyways if totaled out so not a huge amount of money.   500 is play it safe I guess but are you going to ride it or just fix it up and re-sell it for say 2+ grand or so?  I do not see Vulcan 1500's going for 3K around here much unless pristine.

I was outbid.  The site doesn't show the final price, so I don't know what was paid for it.  With fees I was up to $575.  I don't think a 2001 crashed 1500 Vulcan with a savage title is worth more than that.  For that much it would have been a fun project.

Maybe next time.  It's funny to see how low some things go.  I've seen boats go on there regularly for $30 with no bid but the original bid. I'm not sure why. Lots of other odd things.  I saw a 56' refrigerated 18 wheeler trailer with no damage go for $475. Like I say... interesting.  And it gave me an excuse to ride to Dallas.
