Hey, are any of you able to get out and ride?   My last ride was the 12/31, 2 hours of cruising the back roads.   Now there is nothing by white out there.  Lots of white and ice on the roads.  Tired of shoveling the white stuff.  tickedoff

Just what the doctor ordered. short but sweet.
42 & cloudy... found a little mist the last 2 miles home.

Love our mild climate here in the great northwest. able to ride all year.

I keep Tabs on one of my Best Ever VERMIN Ridding Buddies, (he can't ride anymore). He lives just west of you in Port Coquitlem. Earlier this week..He told me they got 10".

I Love Canada, but you guy's need to close the window & keep that cold stuff up there.

Ha Ha......Slayer

PS.. Let me know when that crap melts.. We will have to meet up for a ride!

Ya, I'm at least an hour and a half without traffic (which never happens anymore and why my Valk is never pointed West when heading out from here) East of PoCo , as its referred to by those who live or once did live there (back in the mid 70's for me). We had as much as 20" up here on my little mountain. Should be gone in a river of rain by the end of this week though.
Up until 3 years ago, I usually kept my Valk insured throughout the year and was always able to get out at least a couple times a month during the Winter... not so much  now as it seems we've reverted back to having something resembling "real" Winter weather on occasion through Dec & Jan in particular (global warming???  2funny) . She's off the road now and stripped of a few pieces & parts as I perform some maintenance and do some extensive cleaning & polishing, but look forward to getting her out again when the threat of more Winter weather is less likely and the roads are free of gravel and brine towards the end of February. Would love to meet up cooldude

Not sure the rains that are suppose to be coming are going to clean the ice off the roads around here.   Not for sure they will be rains.

I keep the insurance on my Valk year round, normally get to ride most months of the year.  Normally the heavy snows have come in Feb/Mar in the lower country where I live, not the middle of January.  I have ridden up to Crater Lake (around 7K' in elevation) in January.  Temps high enough that roads are not icy with anywhere from 4-6' of snow on the ground.  This year, not going to happen.  Longest I have gone in the 10 years living here is 6 weeks without riding.  Thankfully the Hwy Department doesn't use salt around here, though the rock are good size.

Agreed.. I'm no fan of populated areas either. I'm in Marysville about 40 miles north of Seattle. The Bike rarely goes south.

If I do... its very early morning while everybody is still sleeping.  Grin

in the states motorcycle insurance is Cheap... I keep it going all year.

What kind of stuff are you doing to the bike?

What is your favorite local day ride?

You talking about Evil and Nasty. Haven't heard anything about Nick in a long time. How are they doing?

Hey Maddog
Yes, I was referring to Nasty Nick & Evil Ursel.

I Went up for a visit & tech / maintenance day on my new green bike last summer.
He was riding once in a while, but only on the straight  section of slab to Hope & back. His dizziness comes & goes but it likely won’t get better. He quit riding a couple years ago.

About the same time he quit riding.. he bought a project car. It’s a ‘75 Jag with about 35,000 miles.
The body & interior are perfect. He has been working the bugs out of the running gear.
With his mechanical, troubleshooting Skills, I have no doubt he will be successful. They take it out for a Sunday drive now & then.

Ursel.... is just as sweet & happy as ever.
Just don’t cross her or the Evil part comes out... Ha

** correction... 87 Jag

Just getting ready to do the rear drive service, and also checking things like header bolts, etc. Since I'm still working I don't always have a lot of time....plus I'm no expert mechanic by any means, so being off the road for a bit affords me enough time to get some of this stuff done.

We ride a lot up Hwy#1 North and #3 East...great roads for a full day run ....or for overnight rides. Also do a fair bit down your way through Sumas down #9 and then of course across to the Cascades hwy as well.

I love hwy 3.. Manning Park is just awesome. I typicly try to make the north cascades - manning park loop a couple times each summer. Last year the smoke from the fires was awful.
It's been several years since I have had the pleasure going up Hwy 1.

I feel your pain about still working.. and having time to get things done.
I have about 5 years left.. Although I absolutely Love my work as a const. superintendent.
I currently work in Seattle where we go into older view neighborhoods & tear down older homes  & build new multi-million dollar homes. I must say when I retire I won't miss the commute.

How about You.. what's your line of work?

About time you clean that thing! My bike hasn’t moved since returning from Joseph last September, still has Oregon dirt on it too. I need to get started cleaning so I’ll be able to ride next to your bike at Valhalla.

umm, Cal...and just when do you ever ride NEXT to me?? Seems whenever we're on the road together I'm just doing all I can to keep your tail lights in sight  2funny
Ya, must be tough getting to cleaning your bike when you have that monstrous beautiful chrome engine and gorgeous paint job on that hot rod of yours to keep up, eh?

Yeah, since I got the hot rod running, I’m sad to say, the Valk hasn’t been getting much love. Cry

I have had a couple opportunities this week between the storms.  Just short rides while the pavement is mostly dry.  I used to ride year round, before the valk. but it's too nice.

After nearly a week and a half of mostly rains, the ice and snow on the roads is gone for now.  Thursday it started drying out.  So on Friday, the sun came out and the promised 50 degree temps came.  So off I went on a 100 mile ride.  it was great, my Valk acted like she wanted to roll, had to keep her in check as mostly rode on county (farm to market-55mph) roads.  Though did open her up a bit coming home.

The Klamath Basin where I live is roughly 80 miles north to south and 80 miles east to west.  All of it in lower elevations (4000 feet or less).  About 2/3's of this area is in CA.   This time of year only takes one/two days of warm temps to get the roads clear enough to ride.   Thankfully no one uses salt on these roads, but do put a lot of sand/gravel down.  So curves are always approached with caution.

Weather turned nice this week been able to ride to work everyday and then have great rides after work.  This is still Feb. I have to remind myself so when starts raining again I won't be too disappointed.

Its been nice here also, temps above average.   Was able to enjoy a 150 miler yesterday.  Rode east of town over two ridges (can't call them mountains as only 1k feet above where I live).  Still have snow on those ridges under the trees.  Should be deeper.  May be a long dry summer for those that need water.
