That's not a diet, it's abstinence like quitting tobacco, or your favorite Scotch.  Wink
BTW quitting smoking was much easier for me than  smitten sugar  smitten potatoes and...smitten bread.   smitten
Try passing by a bakery when they have big fans blowing the smell of their fresh baked cinnamon buns into the street...that might sound like a conspiracy theory but it smells like it's true

Brother, you hit it right on the head ...

Both the wife and me are Type 2 Diabetics,  and processed flour / sugar products are absolutely the worst to smell when right out of the oven.... There are times I would kill for a donut or cinnamon roll, but they are absolutely the worst things for us to eat. I can have one donut MAYBE two on a really good day, but it really spikes my blood sugar.

My Blood Sugar is normal, however...years ago I traded in a six pack for a much larger one pack...now I'm just trying to win the battle of the bulge...the six pack ain't never coming back I'm guessing.

Yeah, my six pack has become a half barrel.

I wonder how you go sugar-free when almost everything sold in the grocery has sugar in it.  Except actual produce and grain.

I don't abuse sugar except the two tablespoons in each big cup of coffee.   Grin

I'm not counting foods with sugar     just not adding sugar to anything....staying away from sugar coated cereals....sodas.....donuts....pastries and deserts.     Lbs drop off fast when you cut out all sugar.     Drink black coffee and unsweetened tea and water.     It's not hard to start a diet....I start one every Monday after breakfast....ha

Diets don't work.  A balanced  approach for a complete (and permanent) change in one's lifestyle is necessary for physiological adjustments to take place.  This makes for a "healthy" individual to develop.
The S.A.D. is mostly garbage from a nutritional point of view.  No exercise, no motion, sludge for slugs.
Good luck with that. coolsmiley

Hey Dennis, if you don't bring a couple of those fritters you can just turn around at the state line. 2funny  Supposed to have more white frosting on the ground so watch the weather for sure.

My wife and I quit using sugar and added salt in our diet years ago. We also avoid canned and processed foods. I am not saying we do not eat it , we avoid as much as possible.
I am no longer pre diabetic. We both need to loose a few pounds , but we are healthy.
 Water is very important also.

My A1C went high in 2018. Cut out a lot of stuff including pop daily. Only would have pop when I had a whiskey. A1C dropped. Changes at work in 2019 made my eating habits go poor. Drank a lot more too  Undecided so that means more pop. Changed to diet and it has helped a lot.

Fudgie , just my two cents worth (before taxes) , quit the diet soda. Add a non-sweetened flavor to your water if needed. Diet soda is worse poison than regular soda.

No doubt - some artificial sweeteners are better than others (stay away from aspartame if you can, Splenda (sucralose) and Stevia are much preferred). OTOH - if you're trying to eliminate sugar and CALORIES from your diet - any of them will do.

I bought me a "Soda Stream" as I have a major problem downing water and with my Gout issue, it's important that I flush myself with water! That unit works perfect and you just put in a slice of lemon or lime and your done! no problem drinking at least a litre/quart a day.

No salt for me. Too many kidney stones. That's to include chocolate,  and all soda and much sugar as well. Oh, no ice cream or peanuts either and cut back on red meat. I told my doctor I may as well go out front and eat grass and have tree bark for desert.
