"Most bizarrely of all, when researchers tested blood samples taken years before the pandemic started, they found T cells which were specifically tailored to detect proteins on the surface of Covid-19. This suggests that some people already had a pre-existing degree of resistance against the virus before it ever infected a human. And it appears to be surprisingly prevalent: 40-60% of unexposed individuals had these cells." https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200716-the-people-with-hidden-protection-from-covid-19

And it appears to be surprisingly prevalent: 40-60% of unexposed individuals had these cells." I just wanted to repeat what Serk said and I've seen. That means up to 60% ( over half) of Americans are not susceptible to the COVID-19. Hmm. How does that set with the panic we've been fed?

Combine that data point with this one: For most areas, "it is likely that greater than 10 times more" infections occurred than there were cases reported, though most residents were not symptomatic, the report says. With nearly 4 million cases identified in the US since the onset of the outbreak, the CDC's report suggests more than 40 million people were infected. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/coronavirus-cases-usa-cdc-report-death-toll-today-trump-covid-a9630916.html

Seeing the silver lining without the cloud. From the article:
"But the results show that even in highly impacted areas like New York City, the rate of infections is still far lower than needed to meet the 60 to 70 per cent rate threshold for "herd immunity".
I don't expect I'm going to catch it either, scooper. I'm guessing many who have felt the same. Only Zoltar knows...

I still wouldn't wear a mask if I didn't have to go shopping and enter merchants requiring them (IAW the Governor's statewide mandate). As long as I'm not in such a facility (or an outdoor gathering such as the Overland Park Farmer's Market where they required them) - I don't wear them outside the house, certainly not IN my cars or riding the Valk. And don't give me that "I protect you, and you protect me" crap.

The New York City metropolitan area was driving the U.S. numbers. New York City has dropped off but other metropolitan areas are getting their turn. Hot spots here and there now and then simply don't justify shutting down the entire country or even entire states. But then most know that I largely suspect the creative COVID-19 death reporting.

Yes, most here do know this. There may be some creativity, I don't doubt this. I don't think it's being done across the board or on a grand scale. https://www.thedailyworld.com/nation-world/experts-debunk-conspiracy-theories-coronavirus-cases-are-inflated-to-scare-people/https://komonews.com/news/coronavirus/silent-spread-of-virus-keeps-scientists-grasping-for-clues-07-22-2020You're preaching to the choir that we shouldn't shut down the entire country, or even states.

Got back to work today after vacation, and learned a co-worker's 66 year old mother was lost due to Covid last week.....
(No, don't know what other conditions she had, and yes, knowing him he wouldn't call it a Covid death if it wasn't really what caused it.)

I reached that point as well - that's why I say "Let's open up and live". I'm not going to watch a 90 minute youtube video from Dr Osterholm that says the same thing. Take reasonable precautions, but you need to accept that there will probably be 100 Million cases of C-19 before this is all over, and about 1/2 of 1% of those will probably die from it ( Mike was saying 480,000 deaths). Yes , it's alot - but in the grand scheme of things, is it really ? Any battlefield commander would consider that a superb casuality rate.
On a global scale - 2,300,000,000 cases, 11,500,000 deaths.

Connecticut State Lab Finds 90 False Positives Out Of 144 Coronavirus Tests Administered In Mid-June
90 people in the state of Connecticut were found to actually have been negative for coronavirus after receiving positive tests, MSN reported on Tuesday.
The state's Department of Public Health said that its state laboratory found a "flaw" in one of its testing systems and that 90 of 144 people who were tested for the virus between June 15 and June 17 received false positive tests. 161 specimens were collected and a total of 91 of those showed false positives.
Many of those who received the false tests were nursing home residents.
The state said that it reported the flaw to the test manufacturer and the FDA. It has taken "immediate steps" to make sure patients have been notified - hopefully more than just forwarding them a copy of this article.

Hooking human lungs up to sleeping pigs could boost transplant success, research says https://www.foxnews.com/health/hooking-human-lungs-sleeping-pigs-boost-transplant-successThe development comes as coronavirus cases are spiking across the United States. The virus is notorious for attacking the lungs and respiratory system of the infected person. “We don’t know how many of the … Americans who have been infected with COVID-19 will need an organ transplantation a few years from now,” Abbas Ardehali, surgical director of the UCLA Heart and Lung Transplant Program, told OneZero. “There could potentially be a tsunami of need for lung transplantation in the years to come.”

The CDC has released COVID-19 guidelines for schools, heavily emphasizing the need to return students to the classroom, and making the case that school closures “have had negative health consequences on our youth.” https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/reopening-schools.html

Local school district is offering parental choice between virtual or on campus. They request a commitment to one or the other but are allowing flexibility to switch at any time, although they're requesting the changes try to be done at 9 week grading periods instead of willy nilly. We've signed the commitment forms for all 4 kids for on campus school as soon as such an option is available. We've discussed it at length, and feel strongly the relatively small risk COVID presents pales in comparison to the much higher risk of stunted learning, stunted socialization, depression, higher suicide rates, etc that continued isolation causes.
