Some interesting information here, also some unnecessary swipes at our President.

That is interesting info. Make me look for more.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/#professional

Comparing "apples to apples" is nearly impossible in this environment. But, it's about as close as we are likely to get. At least for "developed and free" countries. I think time will tell that the Kiwi's might have handled this the best. They do have some natural advantages though. For my accurate death info, I think total deaths over the normal average may be the best judge of the impacts. The numbers I'm seeing are about 200,000 for the U.S. That's really not far off of the 173,000 that has been reported. But where are other countries numbers ? I haven't been able to find them.

It's not doom and gloom, Mike, but it ain't sunshine and lollipops either.  It is what it is.

When trump makes comments like a massive outbreak in NZ........ NZ is getting overrun, advises not to travel to NZ as it is out of control.... he opens himself up for ridicule. We have 22 deaths for 5 million people (not all deaths confirmed covid so may be as low as 17)

The current cluster we have that is not from quarantine is a concern but hardly a massive outbreak with our total active cases being 114 and a bunch of those were picked up in the mandatory 14 day quarantine for NZ residents returning from overseas. 1 case in ICU

Its dumb luck we don't have more cases though as the PM made lots of noise on how good we were but dropped the ball in not doing what she said she was going to do........ over 1K through the border & quarantine not tested, staff at quarantine hotels not tested, bus drivers carting new arrivals not tested, many thousands at the start getting through with a quick "if you feel sick self isolate (that's what going hard on people was at the start) massive testing going on now hence the slight blip in numbers and we expect more.... it could go south yet with so many holes in the "Locking down hard and fast" but with 1 new community case today and 2 in fresh arrivals (in quarantine) its hardly out of control atm

being an island with a spread out population sure helps though

Edit to add. Trumps comment on one video I watched made it even more ridiculous when just praised how well America has done with Covid, how good the numbers were.........then how bad things were in NZ???  Its not even close, per population we are more than 100 times better of with 4 per million (actually 4. something) deaths VS 544 per mil according to this site

Some of it may be because we Americans seem to driven for approval from others.  Most of us wouldn't consider being seen naked unless we think we look good enough to impress others.

Europeans, or at least a large number of Europeans, choose to go naked or near naked to please themselves.

I noted this difference in expectations during a time in the Caribbean on a swimsuit optional beach.   Smiley

I noticed it during an Army-Air Force combined conference in some sleepy little Bavarian spa [bad (bath) natural spring) resort.  All the locals, family and all ages were buck naked.

The conference was for JAGs, and we decided that bathing suits kept us out of conduct unbecoming issues (there were a number of female JAGs in the group as well, and they were not into the buck naked thing at all).  Grin

It's not that I'm all that shy, I'm just very cognizant of the sex offender registry, and the parts of me that never see the sun get sunburned badly, and real fast.

That was pretty much been ruled out after lots of site testing in this cluster but they are still not sure where this cluster came from so who knows.........

Being so few cases it has been well traced from patient 0 on, household contacts, Work contacts, Church, School contact & public transport has been main the inflection points.

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/italian-hospital-starts-human-trial-of-covid-19-vaccine/1951590

Just a portion from the article;

“ ROME

The first clinical trial of an Italian-developed COVID-19 vaccine started at Rome's Spallanzani hospital on Monday, as Italy faces a constant surge in new coronavirus cases.

The Italian vaccine is just one of several candidates being developed and tested worldwide in a continued effort to shield the global population from the outbreak.

Many potential vaccines, including one produced by a UK-Italian joint venture, are now in different stages of development.

“I am very satisfied and proud of this," said Francesco Vaia, Spallanzani’s health director. "If all goes well and we finish this trial within this year, we could have the vaccine ready by next spring on a commercial basis."

The first of 90 volunteers to undergo the trial test was a 50-year-old woman, who will be monitored for 12 weeks to check if the vaccine causes any side effects, and if it produces anti-bodies. Over 5,000 people applied for the trial, but researchers selected only those who were in perfect health conditions.”

Couple that with the fact there are high percentages of both False positives and false negatives, it's enough to make you wonder if anyone should ever get tested....

you all are starting to be like us and our region rules...... crossing the "border" into Auckland and its isolation zone. The rules change daily, the police at the border don't know, the PM contradicts herself several time in one press conference, people getting to work through the checkpoints OK and back though at the end of shift have  been stopped .......The border/roadblocks are supposed to be open Monday. .... But then some cases have been found to have attended 3 church services and a wedding while having symptoms 9-12 days ago so the ones they had contact with will start to show soon..... Last wedding resulted in 110 cases at the height of things.

Thankfully my workload has been normal but quoting has dropped back the last couple of weeks so I hope things are back to normal soon before I catch up on my list of jobs to do Smiley

https://www.theblaze.com/news/new-studies-hcq-covid-hospitalizations-deaths

“ A study out of Italy found that HCQ reduces by 30% the risk of death for COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized. The result comes from an observational study of more than 3,400 COVID-19 patients in 33 Italian hospitals.

"We observed that patients treated with hydroxychloroquine had a 30% lower in-hospital mortality rate compared to those not receiving this treatment," said Augusto Di Castelnuovo, epidemiologist at the Neuromed Department of Epidemiology and Prevention, currently at Mediterranea Cardiocentro in Naples. "Our data were subjected to extremely rigorous statistical analysis, taking into account all the variables and possible confounding factors that could come into play. The drug efficacy was evaluated in various subgroups of patients. The positive results of hydroxychloroquine treatment remained unchanged, especially in those patients showing a more evident inflammatory state at the moment of admission to hospital."

“ Another study, which looked at outpatient cases in New Jersey, found that a prescription of hydroxychloroquine reduced the risk of hospitalization by 47%. Because the study was conducted early in the pandemic, when mostly only symptomatic people were being tested, researchers believe their sample of more than 1,200 patients represents people with relatively more advanced cases of COVID-19.

The study concluded that hydroxychloroquine can be effective when given early after a COVID-19 diagnosis, and the study found there was no increase in negative side effects for people who took the drug. One concern about HCQ has been the potential for it to cause heart problems in some patients.

"In this observational study of 1,274 COVID-19 patients, hydroxychloroquine given as an outpatient treatment was associated with a 47% reduction in the hazard of hospitalization," researchers wrote. "Adverse events were not increased (2% QTc prolongation events, 0% arrhythmias)."

Department of Justice Requesting Data From Governors of States that Issued COVID-19 Orders that May Have Resulted in Deaths of Elderly Nursing Home Residents

Thousands Of Swedes Receive False-Positive COVID-19 Results Due To Faulty Test Kits From China

Traces Of COVID-19 Found In Abandoned Apartment Bathroom Offer New Clues About How It Spreads

In the latest research to support the notion that the virus coronavirus in the bathroom of an unoccupied apartment in Guangzhou, China, suggests the airborne pathogen may have wafted upwards through drain pipes, an echo of a large SARS outbreak in Hong Kong 17 years ago.

According to the research, traces of SARS-CoV-2 were detected on the sink, faucet and shower handle of a long-vacant apartment situated near the apartment of the family mentioned above. The contaminated bathroom was located directly above the home of five people confirmed a week earlier to have COVID-19. The study was carried out by researchers at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The scientists conducted what they described as an "on-site tracer simulation experiment" to see whether the virus could be spread through waste pipes via tiny airborne particles created by the force of a toilet flushing.

They found evidence of these aerosols in bathrooms 10 and 12 levels above the infected family's apartment. Two cases were confirmed on each of those floors in early February, raising concern that SARS-CoV-2-laden particles from the infected family's stool had drifted into their homes via plumbing and managed to successfully infect others.

For those who don't understand the physics behind aerosol particles, the study's authors offered a visual guide.

Signs of a silent revolution?

Shopping at my Ingles grocery store I noticed 9 males who were maskless.

From their dress I guessed they weren't in a group.

No one approached them to berate them and from my observations no one was looking askance at them.

For the most part there is compliance here, but I have come upon several patrons at different establishments who don't or won't wear them for whatever reason.  I don't scold them, but I don't applaud their patriotism either.

This is 'merica!  It's not in my job description to make a fuss.  I'm not out to discuss Constitutional rights with Johnny Six-pack.

The "one clear factor which predicts how many people are going to die" from coronavirus is "how seriously people take it," Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marty Makary told the "“Fox News Rundown” Friday.

“What we've seen with cases going up and down and undulating around the world is that when people start feeling confident, when they started feeling complacent about the pandemic, that's when we started seeing a bump," Makary -- a professor of surgery and health policy at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore -- told host Chris Foster.

“ Just like in the Philippines and Peru, Hawaii's government has imposed a long, strict lockdown and has never emerged from it beyond a modified phase one reopening. Additionally, the state has had an indoor mask mandate in place since April 20 and an outdoor mandate (even while jogging!) since July 7. It is the model for what the political elites believe to be the key to stopping the spread. Yet the results are the same as they have been in every place that tried to put up a cloth in front of the inexorable spread of viral particles that can only be seen with an electron microscope.”

“Hawaii's daily case count grew more than tenfold in July and August.”

“ Hospitalizations have also increased eightfold since mid-July.”

“ And it's not as if the edict is not being complied with. According to the New York Times, Hawaii has a high degree of compliance. The few people caught without masks have not only be cited, but arrested too. Then again, you can't beat the mandate in the Philippines, where residents were threatened with getting shot for violating coronavirus orders, yet as in all southern latitudes, the country is experiencing a late spread. Ditto for Peru, which had a universal mask mandate for months but has the most COVID-19 deaths per capita in the world.”

You can draw your own conclusions.

I look the facts posted.

There has been that “argument” presented that continued mask wearing does not allow the body to naturally expel the virus.

Constant mask wearing essentially keeps virus particles entrapped in the mask and are continuously inhaled instead of being evacuated from the body. A mask becomes saturated with the virus.

If Hawaii has such strict guidelines and rules about masks, are arresting people for not wearing them and claim everyone is following the rules of mask wearing, theoretically speaking they should be the healthiest state in the union...according to what mask wearers what everyone to believe.

Otherwise there’s something completely different going on there.

All I can really tell you is read the article and see the chart.
