FDA OKs emergency authorization of drugs touted by Trump to fight coronavirus https://www.foxnews.com/health/fda-oks-emergency-authorization-of-drugs-touted-by-trump-to-fight-coronavirusAs for the coronavirus, chloroquine and a similar drug, hydroxychloroquine, have shown encouraging signs in small, early tests against the virus, but they have yet to be studied during a controlled clinical trial. “Let’s see how it works. It may. It may not,” Trump said at a press conference on Sunday, the report said.

I've been thinking this has to be true for some time. There are just too many cases where everyone in a room with an infected person gets sick. Airborne transmission may turn out to be the primary route. So yes, wash your hands and don't touch your face. But maybe we need to avoid public buildings, too. And if you must enter one wear a mask if at all possible, and enter when there are few other people around.

Airborne as we would accept meaning, in the breath of one infected? The article doesn't support that but it gives us a reminder that we may have needed. The virus is contained in droplets, aerosols. Some of us, myself included, attribute these to sneezes and coughs but the context of the story reminds us that singing loudly will result in droplets. Anything that forces a large amount of air forcefully through the throat and out the mouth can spew droplets into the air. Actions such as hollering and guffawing can do so. We demonstrate this when we speak of needing to clean off our screens. Another element of the story is steel folding chairs and how the choir members helped take them down. There was concern as to why some members of the choir didn't catch the virus but we're only testing those who show symptoms. A large portion of COVID-19 victims are asymptomatic. It's not unlikely that the entire choir was infected. I'm not convinced the virus spreads on normal breath but it does bring to mind that we need aware of more than just coughing and sneezing.

I'm thinking this may be correct. It likely doesn't spread on normal breath but may spew on droplets. If it is the case, will we soon be instructed to "elbow" our shouts, guffaws and "high notes"? Or should we just curb those vile behaviors? Yes, I'm kinda sorta kidding.

LOL! Even the elbowing was bad advice. A medical person pointed out that we often cross our arms and asked, "When you cross your arms where do your hands go?" Some Chinese have gone to touching toes.

I guess this is what the task force means when they say we're fighting a war, against an invisible enemy. Dr. Deborah Birx — White House Coronavirus Task Force response coordinator — issued a grim warning to Americans concerned over the COVID-19 pandemic: The best-case scenario for the coronavirus outbreak is 100,000 to 200,000 dead Americans. https://www.theblaze.com/news/white-house-coronavirus-task-forces-dr-deborah-birx-says-100000-to-200000-dead-americans-is-best-case-scenarioSounds like Fauci is in complete agreement with these numbers. Thanks, ChiComs! WTF is this turd you've dropped on the world? Liars. https://www.foxnews.com/world/wuhan-residents-say-coronavirus-figures-released-by-china-dont-add-upAnother online estimate is based on the cremation capacity of funeral homes in Wuhan, which runs 84 furnaces with a capacity over a 24-hour period of 1,560 urns. That estimate puts the number of estimated deaths in Wuhan at 46,800.

Update from my friend that tested positive for COVID-19: "Well i am going to attempt to head back to work (my desk at home) on Wed. Last couple days have made some good progress after 3 weeks of being down. Thank you all so much for your love and support. Stay safe. If anything I can do for any of you let me know. I have a couple of extra n95 masks if any of my local healthcare worker friends need a few.." Also, evidently his writeup of his experience went viral (*Cough*Cough*) and he was contacted by VOX Media, with his permission he was included in this article of various people who've had it and what it was like: (He's "Mike, 57, IT worker in Seattle") https://www.vox.com/first-person/2020/3/28/21197480/coronavirus-symptoms-covid-19

From the article linked: The findings offer “limited evidence that some potential for airborne transmission exists," researchers said, though they warned that the findings do not confirm airborne spread. Wow! "Some potential" and "do not confirm"? A bit less than a statement of proven transmission.

I don't want to be cynical, but are we not being warned to wear a mask in public places because there aren't enough to go around? Social distancing seems to be a weak substitute for a mask if airborne transmission is a credible risk. Distancing certainly helps, but distancing with a mask has to be safer.

Ganja and booze essential, gun shops must close. California. Thankfully Colorado Governor Polis is leaving gun stores open for business. https://kingcityrustler.com/what-counts-as-essential-business-in-monterey-county-amid-covid-19-stay-at-home-order/California, baby. It's alright, when the crazed criminals come kicking your door, remember it's OK if they only rob you for less than $1000. You can't find a gun, and they have liquor stores and dispensaries to spend that money in. It all works out well -- for the criminals.

Hydroxychloroquine Demand Triples Overnight Following FDA Approval
The Food and Drug Administration gave emergency-use authorization to hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday. But demand for the drug backed by President Donald Trump that is typically used to treat malaria soared prior to the move, according to data from Symphony Health.
Weekly prescriptions soared from 100k to 300k over the past week, since President Trump first mentioned the drug as one of two commons drugs that produced potentially wondrous results if administered together (the other drug, azythromycin, better known as a Z-pak) to COVID-19 patients.

You picked up numbers that had just been reset for a new day. That messes up the new cases and new deaths as they are updated continuously all day. To see those numbers accurately click on the yesterday tab. New cases yesterday - 20,353 New deaths yesterday - 573

Thanks for that, I am encouraged that the total deaths for 1m population has not changed though. Getting Covid 19 is one thing, dying from it is another.

"IV Vitamin C "Widely Used" To Treat COVID-19 In NY Hospitals" I saw that the other day. Amazing that I've been suggesting this on this board for yrs and how this treatment has over 400 studies on how it rids the body of cancer, tumors and other unhealthy conditions in the body. Of course I was ridiculed for posting about it.

During Monday evening's White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing, President Donald Trump highlighted a number of companies that have stepped up to the plate to help provide necessary medical supplies, like personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators.
Jockey CEO Debra Waller said her company made parachutes during previous wars. Now, they're making between 30,000 and 50,000 medical gowns a week.
United Technologies Corporation will donate more than 1 million pieces of PPE next week. The company has sent out 90,000 pieces this week alone.
Ford Motor Company bill be making 50,000 ventilators in the next 100 days.
My Pillow shifted 75 percent of its production capacity to making N95 medical masks. CEO Mike Lindell said the company plans to produce 50,000 masks per day beginning on Friday.

There was a story that in the UK, they came up with a ventilator that could be built in 2 hours for about $100 in parts. Granted, not as sophisticated as the ones normally used, but it would be usable to keep somebody alive.

Fauci: "Active discussion" about broadening use of masks to fight coronavirus http://www.axios.com/anthony-fauci-masks-coronavirus-f77c3007-8c56-4ecd-bc9b-1d69e175b71e.htmlWhat he's saying: "When we get in a situation where we have enough masks, I believe there will be some very serious consideration about more broadening this recommendation of using masks. We're not there yet, but I think we're close to coming to some determination. Because if, in fact, a person who may or may not be infected wants to prevent infecting someone else, one of the best ways to do that is with a mask, so perhaps that's the way to go. And again, I say, Jim, that's under very active consideration. We'll be discussing it today, this afternoon, at the task force meeting."
