I have been riding and not doing deep cleaning every time.  So today I knocked off the two bugs I killed yesterday and started wiping the bike down as usual when I noticed the engine was looking dirty.  With only 170,000 miles we cant be having a dirty engine now can we.  So I wiped it down with some mean green rags, tooth brush, wooden dowel to push a rag and a long long needle nose to reach hard to get places.  I thought it looked fantastic so I took a picture.  Wow, it looked horrible, a digital camera with flash shows EVERYTHING!!!  more cleaning and more pictures until I ended up with this.  So a good tip...the camera doesn't lie.  It will show you where else to clean.

The choke cable under the tank looks very dirty.

I went up to Barber last week. That Valk wasn't as clean or as nice looking as yours!

When I pulled the IS down to the frame two years ago and re-assembled her she wasn't that clean. And I put on lots of new stuff that came out of plastic wrap. And cleaned and re-painted as it was re-assembled.

Neat trick with the flash no flash, although i doubt mine will ever be that clean even with the 4 or so months of down time we get up here.

Ok so you have four months. Even though we ride all year, I have had some four month breaks due to injuries a couple times. If you want a really clean bike this is what I did and you can too. Every few days when you have an hour to spare you go out to the bike and focus on one small area like behind a side cover or the forks and front fender. Don’t get distracted by any other area. Just make that small area like new again.

In four months you will have a new bike

Missed a spot... just kidding... thought I saw a spot and it turned out that your engine is cleaner than my laptop screen.  Grin
