We seem to be an overall intellectually curious, historically interested lot here, figured I'd share this little gem:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4sEmXUuWIFlxRIFBRV6VXQ/videos

The History Guy - Forgotten History on Youtube. Basically, a guy that gives 10-15 minute dives into interesting, sometimes forgotten pieces of history. Some very fascinating stuff, and a wonderful alternative to mindlessly consuming the crap regular TV puts out....

Few examples:
Asbestos and Human History - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EJ-4koV7m0
Ketchup - A History - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BHXH5am7B0
The Great Vowel Shift and the History of Britain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOOAb7erAmE

If you find any of those interesting, check the first link further up and just take a gander at his other videos, some really interesting stuff in there...

Anyway.... non-Valk, non-political (Mostly), just something I've been enjoying and figured I'd share it...

thanks for that, interesting.

I've grown fond of listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore history series while on long drive.

Finally got through "Super Nova in the East" About the rise of Japan in WWII

Just started "Blueprint for Armageddon" on WWI.  Both are great history lessons, highly recommend them.  cooldude

My dad was trained for a tail gunner in a B-17 but fortunately deployed 2 weeks after the war ended--apparently the crawl space to the back of the plane was made for a small stature person- which he was -but it also precluded being able to wear a parachute---so when getting shot down it was unlikely tail gunners would survive...his brother was the bombadier in a B-29 that had the propellers go away--meaning caught by the air currents and spinning faster than they were made to and they would come apart and cut the plane up badly-so they had to bail out--it was heavy seas that day and only 1/2 the crew was found--a member came by my grandparents house and told them his chute had opened --they never got any closure..Cherokee County Iowa had some of the heaviest casualties of the war with some 40% KIA..there is a marker for him in Quimby Iowa at the cemetery up the hill from town--the war  basically wiped out a generation that the town really never recovered from. The german Eric Hartman had 352 kills-in Russia they would fly 3-4 missions a day-seems I read that I read he could shoot a burst of a handful of bullets for a kill--the lead American Eddie Rickenbacker had 26 kills
