Worth watching (no pun intended).

For values reference, taking $345 from 1975 would be around $1600.00 in today's dollar...

So, if this were your watch, what would you do with it?  Auction it off or keep it?

Interesting.  He did what I did, where I did it, and when I did it. He might have been in my squadron - we could have toked a doobie together.  Except I was the same ASFC (weapons / munitions) but they asked for EOD volunteers - I declined.  I mostly worked loading bombs on MERs / BRUs in the bomb dump.  I was hoping they would show a closeup of the BX receipt so I could see if he was on the same base - or mentioned his name.  There were half a dozen large RTAFB bases in Thailand at the time - I was TDY to one (Takhli) and PCS to the other (U-Tapao).  There was more sapper activity closer to Cambodia however, where EOD would be more needed.  NKP and Ubon come to mind.  We did have such attacks at both my bases but it was rare.

That was awesome, thanks for posting it. I am a little surprised that someone who may have worked for the CIA would have trouble affording the watch.

No.  Never had an Oyster.  Back then I bought a quality Seiko at the BX, which was stolen.  A Rolex is above my pay grade, I'm thinking.  I haven't worn a watch in decades.  Especially an expensive one.  Between that and my shoes and my car goldiggers aren't hitting on me.  Now my motorcycles, that's another story...

MarkT: do you recall which Seiko model was it?

Not on Rolex level, but those vintage divers if in good state are still worth some money (e.g. 1K to 2K).

There were recently some re-issue limited editions of a few Seiko military watches from the late 60's, but they command a steep price (range from 4K to 5K).

Examples:
a) 62MAS re-issue: https://thewatchlounge.com/seiko-prospex-sla017/

b) 'Captain Willard' (i.e. it was featured in the movie Apocalypse Now, used by Martin Sheen): https://www.seikowatches.com/global-en/products/prospex/special/1970recreation/

I bought a Foolex in Tijuana in '88 or so.

Real GMT Master stainless band, bezel and mineral crystal, but with good Seiko works.

About $30 and the only way to easily tell was the sweep hand ticked (real ones don't).

I broke the crystal and it was too expensive to replace, so I just put a plastic one on.

It's worked and kept good time to this day.

I never go swimming with a watch on, good or crummy.  (and if I'm down 200 meters I'm in serious trouble, screw the watch)  Grin
