Gentlemen

My I/S@1999 needs some new front brake pads and looking into partzilla (https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1999/gl1500cf-a-valkyrie-interstate/front-brake-caliper), it is listed with 2 part number codes:

a) 06455-MV4-405: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/06455-MV4-405
b)  06455-MZ0-760: https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/06455-MZ0-760

Do I need 1 of each?

While at it, how hard of a job is it to replace the pads?

Best regards

I'm not sure why they have 2 different numbers. Sometimes Honda changes them, but they will usually show the old number as not available. You need 2 sets. You can find them much cheaper though. I think I get both fronts and a rear for about $40 total. If you've changed pads on a car, you can easily do it on your bike.

@meathead: do you mean that probably they are the same/similar part, but only with 2 different part numbers?

If so, would buying 2x of a single (either 'a' or 'b') would be enough?

Yes, I believe so. Although I suspect one number might be discontinued. If so, you might be delayed in getting them. If you are set on OEM, I'd cross check with another parts company and see what they list.

I believe Honda updates the numbers for whatever reason and the parts companies leave the originals up, probably for cross reference.

I've ordered parts using the original numbers and the parts company has changed them to the new numbers automatically.

Not hard, but does take some skill and knowledge.

The parts fish I order parts from also has the 2 numbers listed. However, the ....760 number is crossed through and the ....405 number is listed.

My opinion is to stay with OEM.

Those might be correct, but they don't list the Valkyrie as fitting them. Which would make me hesitate. I'm sure some will speak up about using cheap pads. I've been using them for many, many miles with zero issues.

When considering cheaper (and non OE) brake pads, check the prices on new rotors.

Organic material pads should be used. There is no extra wear with them.

Received a msg from partzilla saying that, indeed, 760 was superseded by 405.
