FOX

It’s running now right. My Fox Station has regular programming, so maybe Fox Sports?

My bad it’s on regular Fox station.

I am not feeling well right now. I used to be pretty involved in racing, and I cringed several times during that wreck. First, when he was turned into the wall, that's a brutal hit, post Earnhardt safety updates or not. When he went over, that in itself isn't too bad. He was hit full steam in the driver's side roof area while upside down. With the proximity of the driver's helmet and containment seat to the halo bar beside him, I have an awful feeling that the roll cage and the front of car that hit it may have contacted Ryan's head. I hope I'm not correct. I've witnessed several drivers pass during wrecks that were far less ugly than that. I truly hope he'll be OK.

Same pit in the bottom of my stomach. Saw some footage of his team walking away from the wreck after he was removed...serious concern on their faces....

Pray that he will be ok....

To go from leading, to being bumped and in serious trouble in a blink.  Those three going all out for the win; a dicey scenario.

Well, the press conference said that he's in serious condition, but with non life-threatening injuries. That's WAY better than I expected to hear, so I definitely feel better now. Still, he is hurt badly, so I hope for the best.

Glad it seems he’s ok. Was never a fan of Newman, but I was never against him. The guy’s a good racer.

The race that would not end finally ended with that catastrophic launch of Ryan Newman's car when he had victory in sight.  I was left numb.  Thank God I heard a few minutes ago he is in stable condition, although I am not sure of any injuries.  Hope Ryan is back on the track soon and am sure his friends Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz are also.

The commentators mentioned a few times they were covering the length of a football field every second. Doing the math puts it a bit north of 204 M P H. Kaka happen quickly at those speeds. And they've been at it-speed-for a couple of hours. Couple of those pushes that I observed if the pusher or the pushee were not exactly lined up the pushee went sideways. But as Mark Martin pointed out a few times when he was still racing NASCAR full time-It's a racing thing. Happy Ryan Newmans injuries are non life threating. I PRAY it stays that way. Horrifying wreck there at the end. RIDE SAFE.

Although I like racing...mostly bikes though, I've always felt that any contact done on purpose should be illegal. If a driver does it more than a set number of times assuming no accidents caused, they should be penalized. If it causes an accident they should immediately be pulled from the race. I know that goes against what a lot of people want to see, but my feelings are if you can't beat them by pure racing skill you shouldn't be allowed to force them out by contact....intentional or otherwise.

Understand what you are saying John but he wasnt trying to force him out. Bump drafting is part of super speedway racing.

I sometimes wonder if the drivers wouldn't be safer if there were no restrictor plates at the superspeedways (or anyother artificial slowing them down). Putting enough aerodynamics on the cars so they STAY down on the track couldn't hurt either.

Yeah, I get that but it's still contact....albeit ever so slight. At over 200mph a feathered bump can send you flying....literally. Many have crashed trying to do it and others because they were.

In the world of torts (accident cases) you hit from behind and injury is caused you are at fault

If the driver died, manslaughter would be sustained in any court of law IMHO  a scary thought many ways

The whole practice of bumping at that speed is insane as this is not roller derby  I saw it live and was surprised he was not killed.

Just grateful that the safety measure that have evolved BECAUSE of nascar and other formats (like formula 1) were enough to save his life.   Happy he is home now with his family

For the record I think the TT races on Isle of Mann are also a bit nuts but at least it just man against time there
