It appears the treatment I rec'd. last fall was effective. Daily radiation(25 days) was preceeded by a procedure known as brachytherapy wherein tiny hollow needles are inserted directly into the gland for the purpose of injecting a high dose of stuff. At the same time they implant a couple gold seeds used as markers for the following daily radiation. The procedure is done in the "tain't" area of the anatomy, which leaves you more than a little uncomfortable for a few days while sitting. Then five days later the daily visits started. It was explained to me this type of cancer thrives on the testosterone in your system, so that prompted them to start with hormone shots in June which knocks down that particular male hormone. Those shots, aside from feeling like they injected a half pound of Elmers Glue in your keester, also leave you with various side effects. Wonderful little events like hot flashes, sleeping irregularities, to name a few. My older daughter simply told me "welcome to my world" since she's in the throes of change herself and having a good laugh at my expense. So, last Friday was my three month followup with the attending dr. and he was happy with the readings of the bloodwork. The PSA is 0.012 which to him indicated irradication of the cancer, plus the testosterone is also way down(could have told him that). Since he wanted to give me one more hormone shot I questioned him on the need, simply telling him I wanted to begin feeling a bit more normal. Those shots also tend knock down your energy level and I was tired of it. There were days I wanted to get out and do something and would sit on the couch eating b'fast....only to fall asleep for a couple hours. After some conversation between the dr., myself, and my daughter, he agreed to forego the final shot. He did state that if I were 52 rather than 82 in a month, he would insist mainly due to the normal level of "T" in your system at that age. He then stated at my age that hormone level isn't as high so shouldn't be an issue. It was then I jokingly asked "what if I should remarry a much younger woman who is still sexually active, wouldn't that show my T level is still high?" He just gave me a wry smile and said "John, in that case it probably won't be the cancer that kills you!" Overall, he was both pleased and surprised at my short recovery time for all of it, telling me I was well ahead of the curve regardless of the age factor. Apparently time I spend in the gym is still paying off. Now I have to work on my sugar level, those hormone shots really jack that up and my primary care dr. got all up in my business about it. In the end, I'm thrilled with the outcome and hope I have a few more years to enjoy the results. For now, I'm looking forward to IZ in June and doing a bit of traveling to boot.

sounds good John. God Bless however they are somewhat lying since without test now there is more of the bad estrogen and how it converts into and even worst form which attacks the prostate causing another form of cancer. so have they said u will need a test patch later on? its actually the lack and low of test that causes problems in the first place. young men with sky high test don't get prostate cancer yet which they want to lower on you. estrogen is the cause of all prostate problems https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3134227/https://www.cancernetwork.com/prostate-cancer/testosterone-may-fight-well-feed-prostate-cancershttps://thetruthaboutcancer.com/testosterone-prostate-cancer-connection/An evidence-based review published one year prior in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Urology came to similar conclusions about the role of androgens (male sex hormones) – mainly that they help offset prostate problems rather than contribute to them.6 Having low testosterone is actually much more problematic for men’s health in general, it turns out7 – a fact that completely turns the “androgen hypothesis” of prostate cancer onto its head. What this all suggests is that mainline thinking on the subject is severely flawed, if not completely misguided and false. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/testosterone-supplementation-after-prostate-cancer-20090619180

Great news John. He just gave me a wry smile and said "John, in that case it probably won't be the cancer that kills you!"I like docs with a sense of humor. Too many think they are God's right arm, not to be questioned or challenged, who just barely tolerate your presence before them, and with no sense of humor at all. One doc I just told.... Man, I do not like you or your attitude, and I'm sure the feeling's mutual. I'll find another doc. And I had the distinct feeling I was not the first patient that left him. He was the classic sanctimonious imperious dweeb. The replacement doc turned out to be an avid gun collector who dresses up and participates in Civil War and WWI reenactments (in his 60s), and funny as hell.

Great news, Mr. Schmidt! I am a little concerned with how much estrogen they've pumped into you. What size cup do you require with your brassieres?

When we were first talking about sharing a room he asked if I was going to have T's. Told him no more than any other old fart with man-boobs. Re. the shots, only rec'd. three...each were 3 mo. apart starting last June with the last one mid-November. As it stands now, I'm getting no more. Maybe I can go back to a training bra by summer!

Pappy, are you really trying to hurt calendar sales that much? The world isn't ready for me without a shirt on, let alone in a 2-piece swimming suit. I heard Rita yell "incoming" the last time I dove into our pool.
