TP,

Sure hope that roll in your avatar isn't what you're using during the prep!!! Oh the joys of prep... Had one myself a couple of months ago... Hope your results are at least as good as mine were... Hate the prep for those peek-a-booties, love good news and reassurance, though.

My Doc said I didn't need one, just take a sample of a stool with a prepackage tool, put it in the case that came with the package, and take it back to the lab.  Heck of a lot easier than the evasive procedure not necessarily fun just easier.

Did have a colonoscopy originally when I hit 60, now 14 years later just doing the stool sample every year.

These are so easy to do and you even get to target practice, the packaging is a little awkward and honestly I would not want to be the delivery driver that picks that up  Grin

I did a real colonoscopy years ago. Man. That was a experience. Since there is no history of  colon cancer in my family. I choose to go with the crap in a box. Due to advice from my primary physician. All negative results. cooldude

stool sample fine but heard to detect pollups (spelling) think you need to get examed in the rear up there, not 100 percent sure though?

I turn age 50 soon and as long as insurance covers it,  I think it should  as preventive maintenance,   even though no family history,  probably should get it done just to be safe.

went last year for a covered yearly exam since wife nagged me to go,  and darn dr. wanted to bill me 270 bucks more for 2nd office visit since dr. asked me anything else want to discuss so asked him 1 fricking question he thought proper to bill me on what should be a covered routine yearly physical exam.  I did not pay it nor will EVER and going to find another dr. since do not go yearly to one and that is the reason I do NOT go yearly, crooks!

I just take the package to the Lab, only a couple miles away.   Like being kind to the mailman.   2funny

Had one 9 years ago, another one year last year. Here in Alberta you go under a very mild general anesthetic that lasts for about 45 minutes. The worst part is the 'Turbo Lax In A Jug' that you have to drink a day ahead...believe me, you are clean as a whistle by the time you show up for the procedure.  Shocked ....Sad ....Shocked

I go through it about every year or so because of my sever case of chrones.
Have lost a lot of my insides to it.
Thats how they keep a watch on it.
Not too hard for me, all I do is go on a liquid diet  for two days before
and a little prep. Not bad if you like Italian ices, broth and jello.

Its about the same here. Prep is way worse than the procedure. Except after they are done you got tons of gas. Sounds like a blazing saddles scene.  I do it every 5 years

If they are up to date they use CO2 and the body absorbs it and there is no gas. Last time 3 yrs. ago my second they brought me out to soon. It is almost instant and he just started to with draw the camera, I started laughing, told the doc it tickled. They said they were sorry it will not happen again. They told me to have another in 5 yrs. due to colon cancer in my grandparents. I got a clean bill of health out of it, but if I would need one every yr. I would do it.

That's amazing!  If I only had tons of gas every five years some of my friends and relatives would be greatly pleased.   cooldude

I started at age 35 (Dad had a colon full of Polyps and it was removed), about every 5 years since. The worst part of the whole procedure, IMO, is that prep ! Might as well not work the day of prep as well as exam day itself.

Several pre-cancerous polyps last time, my dad also had colon cancer and shat in a bag. I need to do this hopefully this summer.  Dr. Jen just said if you are considering or have screening procedures like mammogram or colonoscopy currently scheduled, POSTPONE THEM!

Thanks, China!   tickedoff

They do recommend that one get a colonoscopy and repeat often if you have polyps or have a family history of colon cancer.

For those of us that have not shown these problems, the test kits are recommended.  One heck of a lot easier to do, less expensive,  and no gas problems.
