Changes in routine can produce... amazing discoveries, huh! Good luck with all that... We're all having to deal with life as it's never been before...I think I'll just go for a ride and roll the dice.

I won’t be surprised if ESPN starts airing butterfly catching competitions or inner city pickup basketball games at local playgrounds. I wonder what people will be betting on with all the online sports books, maybe people will be holding underground cockroach races.

I wonder if there’s an over/under for the number of Corona cases in each state along with fatalities, and the date this all ends.

Haven't been to an NHL game for 5 years.  Finally got some affordable tickets for April 2nd (Avs vs. Jets) and made plans for a Denver trip.  All events at the Pepsi Center have been cancelled for the next 30 days.

could care not much about pro or college sports but what has irked all of high schools is the inability to get the WIAA basketball games in to even play in front of NO ONE would be better than just cancelling them all together.  What a waste and if I was in high school and was contending for the no. 1 best team in respective divisions I would be upset as well.

why not just cancel all from attending and play the game at a neutral sight on TV for everyone to see and let the 10 or so players play with coaches only LIVE?   common sense is not here either of course.

That show you are quoting was called-The Life of Riley. One of my Dads favorite shows. I'm thinkin here that line-what a revoltin development this is-was in every show. Reminiscent also of Jimmy Durante"s closing line as he walked away in the spot lights-good night Mrs. Calabash wherever you are. Yeah-I Know I'm old!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

One of my favorite times of year.  My Michigan State Spartans have caught fire as late winning the Big Ten for 3rd year in a row with good possibility of going far in the tournament.  Then right here in Dayton, the Flyers were ranked number 3 ( maybe the highest of all time for this mid major )and had a good a chance of anyone this year of taking it all.  Yes the Jayhawks are tough.

Just sucks.

The season has not been cancelled as of now, but all games postponed until later dates.  Personally, I think that they'll cancel the rest of the regular season and go right to playoff hockey with an agreement that maybe the first four teams in the conferences will face each other (1-4, 2-3) to determine who wins their respective rights to the conference finals and then on to the Cup.  Still, they won't be done until the 4th of July.  Ice conditions will be compromised if it goes that late. As to the 2nd mrs Durante  She was named Jean
While driving across the country, they stopped in a small town called Calabash, whose name Jean had loved. "Mrs. Calabash" became his pet name for her, and he signed off his radio program with "Good night, Mrs. Calabash." He added "wherever you are" after the first year.

Kind of like when scooter, Phil Rizzuto would always sign off see you soon Cora
Holy Cow was also one of his lines and long gone goodbye
used to listen to west coast Yankee games with my little 2 transistor radio and an earpiece so would not get in trouble   The NY  Times would never give scores from west coast games or anything after 10pm
fuc# them  then and today

My grand daughter's H S team made the Wisconsin State basketball tournament, and they actually had a pretty fair chance to take it all.. Everyone was extremely excited. The whole family bought tickets and reserved hotel rooms in Green Bay for the games that were to be played in the Reasch (sp) Center. (UW Green Bay plays there) it seats 20,000 or more.

First, on Wednesday afternoon they made the decision to limit the number of guests to 4 per player, less than 200 people per team. We could live with that even though most of us did not get our hotel room costs returned because in Green Bay it seems most are 48 hour cancellation notice required. My family decided that we would have a party and watch it on TV, better than nothing right?

Next at 11PM on Thursday night, they decided to cancel the entire tournament, keep in mind that the girls are already there, and would have been playing in front of less than 400 total people.

So that left the girls and coaches no choice but to return to a school that was in session on Friday (almost 2000 people) instead of finishing the championship.

Sucks all the way around, especially for the girls that played their hearts out during the year to get there.

Well, not anybody is happy about the cancellation and isolation stuff that’s going on. I’d bet about half the people are mad because the government is doing something and the other half are mad because they did it wrong, late, early, too much, not enough, etc. Stuff happens, and this is some of that stuff.  coolsmiley

Here's my take on the hunker down strategy going on in sports, entertainment, schools, private business and govt.

In multiple flu epidemics of the past, we suffered greater loss of life than is projected for this Corona virus (CV).  I'm sure many hunkered down back then, but it was not organized like this time (to my knowledge).

Today, we are more politically correct motivated to save every life possible than in the old days (not all bad, and not all good either).  And we are driven by a mass media seemingly hell bent (in self interest) to take us from crisis to crises in perpetuity, and this CV is tailor made for that.

Once a new crises is created, it is hard for anyone (in power) to argue that it should be minimized or ignored or down played without appearing callous and uncaring (or racist or fascist).  As usual, the left and right are doing their best to spin this the best they can, but this virus does not spin as well as other issues.  But like any other crisis, we throw money at it, and hopefully in smart and efficient ways.

The individual risk from this virus is not really that bad, but without question a massive nationwide hunkering down will certainly slow the progress of the disease throughout the country, and save lives in the process (but no one can say how many, and at what total cost).  I also think it will help get through the ordinary progress of the disease more quickly.... to that point where new infection numbers and deaths start declining instead of increasing.  That's where we want to be.  The quicker this passes, the quicker the economy and market will bounce back.  (Hopefully much quicker that the losses caused by the real estate crisis of 2008).

When it is all (or mostly) over, only then will we be able to look back at the whole process and decide if our actions were overkill or just right (or not enough).  Or whether those actions were worth the cost per life saved.  I do not subscribe to the philosophy that any cost is worth a life saved.  Some cost sure, but not ANY cost.  We humans are not an endangered species.

It would be nice to see this in the rear view mirror this summer sometime.  But only time will tell.

China is on the downside of the curve now. If the U.S. of A. follows the same percentages of population we can expect to see 21,000 cases and 700 deaths by the time we hit that portion of the curve.

Do I think we are over reacting?  Yes.  (I hate it when people answer their own questions.)

Do I think it's a serious health issue (challenge?)?  Yes, I do.  It's certainly on the level with or slightly more than the annual influenza.

Have we learned some things we should have learned before?  Yep.  Among them are not to be dependent upon China or another foreign source for our necessary medical supplies.  Hopefully we've also learned to sanitize or wash our hands regularly.  I don't think we need to adopt a culture of physical isolation.

The COVID-19 experience is going to hurt us, most especially the several hundred fatalities.  The COVID-19 panic is going to hurt us much more.  It will hurt us economically, socially and relationally.  It will take a significant time for some of us to recover.  Some of us won't.  I hope it doesn't hurt us politically.

How?  Despite the rate it will infect the number it will infect.  The number of fatalities spread over more time will likely be the same number.

China's surge experience lasted about two and a half months.  Even then it's not totally behind but just slowed to a normal crawl.

No, hunkering down will slow and reduce the number of infections and deaths, especially protecting exposure of old folks at old folks homes and any other high risk people/groups.

How many will be saved (from infection or death) is unknown, but some will be simply by reducing exposure to virus carriers.

I am not saying this is a great plan or the best plan, but it is a plan.

And by slowing the RATE of infections, the health care SYSTEM won't be so overloaded they can't care for everybody who needs it.
