I had high hopes that this panic buying would abate. But, it's getting worse. I got to work at 5. About 5:30 someone told me customers were lined up down the sidewalk waiting for the doors to unlock. I was out filling the meat case and turned around to see a tsunami of people heading for me. It's like tossing a crumb of food in the Amazon River. Piranhas boiling to the surface for ANYTHING ! I could go out and gather up coyote turds, put them in a foam tray, and charge $40 a lb. for them. This is unsustainable, somethings got to give.

Sooner or later you would think everyone would have “enough”. I was in several local stores today and saw a lot of totally empty shelves, Costco even had a sign out front listing what they had sold out on which was about 20 items or categories with a disclaimer at the bottom that the list was not all inclusive. At Aldis they were in even worse shape and I was observing what people had in their baskets and it appeared they had decided they weren’t leaving without something! As I was going to my car I did see one woman returning her shopping basket which was empty and so were the shopping bags she had brought with her to put her intended purchases in for the ride home. She seemed to be one of the few with a little common sense still left.

Arizona is said to (only) have 18 cases.

VA had 9 for awhile, then 18 for several days, and today 52 (and 1 dead).  Last week my grocery stores were a bit busier than normal, with more big carts, but nothing crazy.  I'm waiting for the (normal) weekend depletion to be restocked, and will go again Wed for a few things, just to see what's going on.  I have three half-full liquid cold remedies, but they're all 15-20 years old.  Not that I need any now (and I never took that stuff anyway, except maybe some cough syrup).  (I always thought lots of water, some good liquor and sleep was the best remedy)  (Again, no virus for me in 10 years; I'm out of practice.)

Is AZ full of old retirees (feeling they have to stock up to not get exposed later)?   This seems to be the only higher risk group.

I guess maybe AZ isn't the only place folks are stocking up on groceries.

Also, I wonder how much the TP grabbing is because the media has been running stories on it constantly.  Tell everyone it's running out and sure as hell, it runs out.

I think it's likely country wide. I'm convinced Facebook users are driving this hysteria. We have plenty of old people here, but in fairness the idiocy knows no age limits. I had a 30 something lady chew my ass at 6:30 this morning, saying I should have planned better for this.  Shocked I wanted badly to tell her "Lady if I could plan on idiots like you, I'd be rich". But, all I could muster was "You have a nice day"  Embarrassed

Kansas is only showing 11 but the crazies are at the grocery stores.  The panic doesn't seem to be related to how hard the virus is already hitting.  It seems to be totally media inspired.

West Virginia is still reporting zero.

I went to the store today for the first time since the start of the madness.  I had to get some peanut butter.  Fortunately there was not yet a run on peanut butter.  The lines at the registers were deep.  I guess they've exhausted the toilet paper.  I saw several people with large packages of paper towels.   Shocked

If I get sick, I'm not going to the hospital unless I think I may die. (I will stay at home)

My thinking is, if you go to a hospital you're more likely to die (of something).  I've always felt this way, but it's even more true now.  And, what they feed you is a poor substitute for food, and I'm not even that picky.

I'll bet this is why there's no cases reported in WVa.

Besides, if the pandemic was as bad as reported (continually), if you go to a hospital, they're likely to bury you in a ditch with lime before you're even deceased.  Which would suck.

A recent Johns Hopkins study claims more than 250,000 people in the U.S. die every year from medical errors. Other reports claim the numbers to be as high as 440,000.

This is nothing new.  Back in 1973, Johnny Carson made a joke on the Tonight Show about an impending toilet paper shortage.  This was during the first oil embargo when many people waited in line to buy gas.  His joke triggered many to panic and buy so much that stores ran out.

And as busy as hospitals are going to get, there will probably be more of 'em.
