Sending a specific amount of money to everyone can't be well thought out.  Isn't that precisely how inflation happens?

Why does (alleged) pandemic and a down market have to result in an increase in socialism?

Literally throwing money at the wall seems like a nitwit solution to anything.

We pay for better government than this.

I'll accept it and invest it, then when they want it back I'll keep most of the proceeds gained and thank them....albeit silently. Agreed...not well thought out, but....

I take $10 out of my wallet. I give it to my wife. I turn around and she puts it on the table. I turn around again and THERE'S $10 ON THE TABLE! Like out of nowhere!

So the plan is to take $10 out of my wallet and give it to the government, and they'll give me $8.50! THE ECONOMY IS SAVED!

I’m lucky to be able to work from home and still get my check. Lots of family members are not so lucky. If they keep things shut down for 60+ days lots of people will be hurting. Glad someone is thinking of how to help the people who will need it. Sure hope they try and keep politics out of these discussions.

The free money should not be for people that don’t need it. There will be thousands who depend on there lower paying jobs that may not work for 60-90 days. Hopefully the Government will help them get through this emergency.  Giving everyone a check is poor planning in my opinion.

I would think it would be better to suspend loan, tax, and rent payments for THOSE THAT ARE STRUGGLING (can't work, not getting paid) until they return to work.  Food stamps if you need money for food.  HANG THOSE THAT DEFRAUD OR ABUSE THIS.  Just giving $1K to everyone, will result in some buying Gucci purses.

They said they were going to stimulate the economy by putting more money in the pipeline.  I take it that means firing up the printing presses and diluting the value of the dollar - INFLATION.  What are they thinking?  Not like they haven't been printing money already.  Somebody please give them a history lesson on the Weimar Republic and their hyperinflation.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation_in_the_Weimar_Republic

I will check with my accountant next week when I do a video chat with him about my personal and business tax bill that is upcoming, but I have no memory of any "tax cut" that has benefitted either my business or me, proposed or enacted, by either party. Going back as far as the Carter fiasco, all I get to do is write checks to the Fed and the State that never get smaller. And don't get me started on the legalized protection agencies. (Dat's a real nice business youz got dare, be a real shame if som-tin went bad wid it.)

WASHINGTON — For weeks, President Trump has minimized the coronavirus, mocked concern about it and treated the risk from it cavalierly. On Tuesday he took to the White House lectern and made a remarkable assertion: He knew it was a pandemic all along.

“This is a pandemic,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

This is what Mr. Trump has actually said over the past two months:

On Jan. 22, asked by a CNBC reporter whether there were “worries about a pandemic,” the president replied: “No, not at all. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

On Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, commenting on the country’s first reported cases: “We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. So we’ve had very good luck.”

I don’t post things just willy nilly.
From US Economy and News

In February 2009, Congress approved Obama’s economic stimulus package. It restored confidence and ended the Great Recession in July 2009. It cut $288 billion in taxes. It reduced that year's income taxes for individuals by $400 each and $800 for families. Instead of stimulus checks, workers received a lower withholding in their paychecks. It wasn't publicized very well, so many people didn't even notice the increase.

ARRA also reduced income taxes by the amount equal to the sales tax on a new car purchase. It provided $17 billion in tax cuts for households who invested in renewable energy. It included $54 billion in small business tax cuts.
