I guess you guys heard in the news about the whole State 'shelter in place' policy?

SF Bay Area counties were the first (before the governor's order for California State) and mayors defined that only a few business would stay open:
a) Groceries shops
b) Gas stations
c) Car shops
d) Restaurants only for food pick up
e) Pharmacies and hospitals

I agree with the initiative *but* they forgot one really important business category: gun shops.

They are all closed, which means you cannot buy ammo (even online, as California requires a backgrounds check before allowing you to buy ammo and that means you have to ship the ammo to an authorized Firearms dealer) and cannot pickup a gun that you already paid for (i.e. there is the mandatory 10 days wait time before actually receiving the gun you paid for).

This is just insane! If the public services (e.g. police) collapse, people cannot have access to guns to protect themselves or even if you have guns, you won't have access to ammo.

Since the shelter-in-place is not mandatory (i.e. violation is a misdemeanor), Firearms shops should just stay open if they really care about the 2nd ammendment.
 tickedoff

I love the California State, but this is just insane. I'm glad I got quite a few guns and managed to buy spare ammo last week before this 'curfew' was set.

Only makes me want to move to a free State even more.

Glad to hear you are coming to your senses. Some of us here have been nudging you to consider leaving the communist state of California (my birthplace) for a while. It makes me sad that the state has deteriorated so badly.

I am curious if they can even issue a misdemeanor citation. I was under the impression that even in a national emergency the state and local governing bodies could only "strongly suggest" action. Enforcement of curfews, temporary restrictions, et al, is only actionable if the state legislation approves said measures and the governor signs off (I think). I would appreciate any input from those that know more about this than moi.

That's why you always need to have what you need before the stuff hits the fan.  We lived in Miami during the riots in the 80's.  The first thing that happened is they closed all gun shops and prohibited the sale of ammo as well.  So what you got is all you're going to get.  A friend of mine called the police because there were gangs of thugs roaming the street in front of his house and the cops told him "we're at capacity, you're on your own".  I never forgot that and have been prepared since.

Only a dimwit foolish person waits until bad things happen to stock sufficient ammo for any contingency.

I just read a story today about CA mandatory background checks to buy ammo (every time).  It seems the original charge for this background check was some $16 (every time), but they changed the law which made it only $1... but they have so many anti-gun laws now that even the CA govt (police, prosecutors) can't keep it all straight.  So they've been overcharging everyone for awhile now.  Good luck with the refunds.

Also, tens of thousands (1 in 5) of ammo background checks have erroneously denied law abiding/qualified buyers from buying ammo, even when things are up and running.  Even serving police officers have been denied private purchase. Of the 345,547 ammunition background checks performed, only 101 stopped the buyer because he or she was a “prohibited person”

When the Rodney King LA riots happened, my good friend lived down there in a fancy part of town; but they got within blocks of his home.  He only had his dad's old A5 Browning shotgun, but not a single round of ammo.  And of course all the gun and ammo sales were suspended for the duration. I offered for him to bring his family out to March AFB and bunk in with me.  (He's lived out there for 40 years now, so he probably still doesn't have any ammo; just a big club)

The Koreans were well prepared however. (unlike the police and everyone else)

Chief Gates fiddled while LA burned.

I loved the CA weather (and riding) when I was there, but not the STATE.  They only have subjects, not citizens.

There's no push back anywhere in the country. I don't care what the Europeans are doing or not. I can care less. The sad part is that are people who  know what's going on but they've kept their mouth shut, too afraid to go against the grain, fearful about their life and their career.
I hate to say it but I believe that there would be no resistance, with maybe a few exceptions, even if  the owners of the planet decided go a step further toward Martial Law.
California is doomed a lot more than any other state in the Union and that's because there is no unity of belief or values. Too many people from God knows where that lack the understanding of the American spirit. We're not a nation of patriots anymore unless some political figure comes out waving the flag in search of attention or approval. Then being the obedient population we've become, we place out right hand over our heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance like monkeys.
I guess all the American lives lost in countless wars over the last eighty years have  been in vain, if it's come down to this.

I have to take exception... there's plenty of pushback in middle America, although much of that area doesn't need so much pushback because they have rational state government.  We recently showed a tremendous pushback in VA (and all lawful behavior, this time).  Plenty of America and Americans are still good patriots.  Including many on this board.

So don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

CA would be so much better if the area West of San Andreas went in the Pacific bathwater.  (especially before they all move to CO and TX, or anywhere else)

That is amazing out there for sure!
As I understand it gun sales have been through the roof.
I checked everything of mine to see if there were any holes that needed to be filled and thankfully there were none.
If you look at any of the bulk ammo online .... there is none!

Difference here in The Republic, a post from my favorite freedom store (Mister Guns in Plano TX.)

Thank everyone for being so patient this week. It has been hard in everyone and the guys have been amazing. We are out of most all ammo except 6.5 creedmoor, a little 38 and 40. Some 12 gauge birdshot and hunting calibers like 270, 243, etc.

I am hoping to get more ammo of all sorts this week. We will match the 9mm with our 9mm handguns to give everyone a gun and ammo, then what is left will be sold. Most will be 2 or 3 bucks a box more. The reason is simple. We normally buy in bulk a couple times a year in January and September at special pricing and now we are taking what we can get right now at elevated cost. Selling as cheap as we do is a science and times like these we can't get it as cheap. Our margins are the same or less. It's NOT US.

We have quite a bit of firearms left. A couple of ar pistols, some higher end 308, 6.5cm, and 556 AR's. Shotguns are the hunting variety and mostly classic or high end Benelli. We have tons of revolvers. We have lots of quality 9mm pistols. We have an amazing buy on sig p365 tacpacs.

If you do come, can you please buy some cases? We have too many taking up too much space.

I guess having more guns than almost anyone in DFW was good, since we still have stuff to sell.

We are still having 5 people in at a time. I know. It sucks. We hate it too.

Everyone please continue to be patient with us. The instant check system keeps breaking.

LTC is easier

Our gun men have been phenomenal, there is no better team.

You guys have been amazing too. Thank you for your support.

God bless your families, stay safe.

It amazes me how the gun owners sounds so much more reasonable and saner than the loons that are trying to take guns away.  I've got a decent stock of ammo, but not enough, there is no such thing too much.

Usually I lump Illinois into the same pile of places that have been lost as California, but evidently even their government has put gun stores into the list of essential businesses that will remain open.

I also find it amusing that both states are including weed in the list of essential businesses.....  2funny

"Liquor stores, weed dispensaries and gun stores all are deemed “essential” and will be able to sell their products to the public. "

serk,  you better limit your weekend shootings with the kids and save up on that ammo you may need it if the zombie apocalypse hits soon.    Roll Eyes

I have 3 shotguns, .30-06, and a few .22's, but besides .22 ammo,  probably not as much ammo as needed to prevent zombie attacks for more than a few days.  My supply of ammo besides .22 caliber is only about 3 full 50 caliber metal military ammo cases basically shotgun shells and 20 round boxes of .30-06 cartridges.

I guess close rounds to the vitals with .22 ammo will work for now?

yep,  IL and CA are 2 states I will NEVER move to and only 30 minutes away from the IL border, no thanks.   Wink

The only gun shop that the owner was brave enough to stay open was forced to close after being threatened by the local Sheriff and District attorney:
https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2020/03/20/coronavirus-castro-valley-gun-store-shut-owner-essential-business/

Meanwhile, Gamestop is still open. The Tesla factory is still operating. Weed shops are open. Even fancy dog grooming shops are open.

WTF?

I maintain separate stashes of ammo, that which is for fun, and that which is for, shall we say, social distancing purposes...

But yeah, probably won't be making trips to the land for fun trigger time for a while just the same...

Well I don't seem to be quite that prepared but I haven't been spending much time on the reloading bench this winter. I just donated a 1000 rounds of 9X19 NATO 124 gr hp to the middle child who was crying the blues about not having ammo for her gun. She is at home alone with the babies and the hubbies .45 is in a biometric safe coded to his hand only while he works third shift in a plant that produces medical supplies. He has been informed that plant will not close even if they have to use biohazard suits and isolate the employees at the plant to continue to operate. I had gifted him 1000 rounds of .45 ACP at Christmas and he informed me he has only been to the range twice since then and still has plenty.

The shotguns are my low ammo supply. Sure, I have about 500 rounds of turkey, pheasant, or goose shells but I am woefully under prepared in buckshot or slugs. Perhaps once this current "crisis" has subsided I will remedy that problem. I noticed that two of my favorite long gun powders are out of stock at Brownells once again. It is a good thing that I keep plenty on hand.
