Rebuilt the valve ~6k ago and now the valve won't function when open or (or on reserve).  Ran nicely through what was in the bowls but they are not being refilled from the (full) tank.

I'm guessing it's the vacuum line, but just wondering if there is a preferred way of diagnosing this one and if vacuum failure elsewhere might cause it even with a good line to the intake?
Thanks guys

The vacuum line is easy to check. If it’s good most likely it’s the petcock diaphragm itself. I’d replace with a quality valve and quit worrying about fuel delivery

You can get a short piece of line and hook it up to the vacuum port on the fuel valve. apply some suction to the line and that should open the valve and refill the bowls. If that works you have a vacuum supply  issue and not a petcock issue. Also check that your vent line is not pinched or kinked because that will also show up as no fuel .

Can the OEM POS. Get a Pingle manual petcock. Buy once, cry once.

i second a Pingel, but even with a manual cutoff, there is still enough fuel left in the line to cause hydro-lock; I turn the pingle to 'off' about a mile from the house to minimize the amount of fuel in the line.

Is this issue something that happens after running for a bit?  If so, it could be the tank vent line.  Check to see if it's clogged or pinched in some way...

...if it's simple fuel flow, maybe check the petcock for clogs or malfunction...

...or maybe the #6 vacuum line is shot...

...or the cover set has gone bad after only 6k miles...

Good luck!

No way the 1.5 oz of gas in the line can lock up a 1500 cc motor.

Only needs to go in one cylinder to lock it up. I don't know how much it would take, but I'd guess an ounce and a half would be enough.

Is there a suggested Model for the Valk?  I really like the look of the OEM valve, but this hydrolock thing has me a bit worried.

If you go to the bottom of the page, there is a drawing showing the different types available...given the position of the petcock, the 1000 series (tank on the left, lower left) will likely be the easier to reach... also keep in mind the reserve is much less than OEM.

I think you are saying you like look of the OEM switch. That is not the valve. The switch hooks to the valve to operate it. That switch is not used when you install a Pingel.

Ok,
I got the Pingel and am in the middle of the install.
Here's what I discovered-
Regardless of the valve (it's off at the moment) the tank will only trickle a small stream of fuel out the port.  If the lid is open, she pours like rain.

I'm assuming this means a clogged vent, so I reamed the vent tube with a 12in pipe cleaner but it didn't fix the problem.

Is there a way to get at the OTHER end of the vent path through the top of the lid?  I looked and didn't see any tube or port.

I'm guessing I "could" modify the lid gasket to not seal, thereby making a permanently vented cap, but I hate those types of solutions to stuff

I’m pretty sure Mark T Swapped his gas cap to a vented one. Here's the notes that I have from That time  “ Vented gas cap from a 1983 Honda Magna 17620-MB1-033”

Check with Mark T for confirmation if you decide to go that route.

See what happens with a fuel leak from the petcock. My hydrolocked engine, now repaired. I replace the petcock with a new OEM petcock and added an electric fuel shut off valve and control switch before the T in the fuel line. I don't want to repair this again. I switch off the electric fuel shut off valve when I enter the neighborhood and shut off the OEM petcock which drains the fuel line and some fuel in the carburetor bowels.
