The box arrived today that I ordered to serve as the box for my home built trailer. Great looking piece but I need to add a couple hydraulic lifts for the lid, it now has a couple cables but that doesn't keep it from slamming down on the back of your hand. Not a pleasant afternoon from then on. Fully extended they need to be roughly 12"-14" long. I was poking around on Ebay to see what's available but only one I found gives the length, the rest simply don't want to be bothered and tell me to check the vehicle they're going on. When I try to explain the intended use, I get no response so move on. The box is actually an underbody tool box, weighs about 50 lbs. with a good rubber seal for the lid. I'd love to get it mounted but my grandson doing the welding of the frame for me is quarantined for 2 wks and the frame is at his workplace. As for the struts, I'll need the mounts for it on both ends. Maybe I'll go to Autozone or NAPA and chat face to face.

If it would warm up a walk through the pick-a-part could yield both the struts and their mounts.

I'd go to NAPA, they seem to be a little more knowledgeable, but that ain't sayin' much.

There is a web site just for the supports. They advertise it on Saturday. Do a search for it. Call them with measurements.

I save the ones I have replaced. Might not hold up the rear door on a hatchback, but could work for something like your project. Maybe someone you know who uses a broom handle to hold up the hood or rear door might split the cost with you.
I also suggest to my brothers-in-law, etc., they tell their kids to buy these for them for Father's Day, etc., as it will be more useful than a new tie or a coffee cup for the "World's Greatest Dad."

Maybe a set of struts made for a fiberglass tonneau cover?

another place to try is www.rockauto.com I had to buy some rear liftgate struts for my mother in laws buick rendevous SUV very heavy rear hatch as well as my kids old pontiac vibe rear hatch and found that place the cheapest to buy for both vehicles. Hard to beat rockauto. com pricing though. also as said amazon.com is a good choice
