Yesterday I finished up replacing wood rot on my house in preparation for painting.  siding and part of an eve were toast.  Now its ready

But my back was a little sore.  I thought boy it would feel great to lay on that cold hard floor in the family room.  WOW!  What a good idea, so I cleaned the bottom of the Valkyrie.  Only took 20 minutes but laying there taking pictures took 20 minutes as well (because I wanted it to) so a good 40 minutes laying on the hard floor my back feels great!  And the motor should run 50° cooler being this clean!

Now its Valkyrie related.

why?   does anyone know dirt or grime is up in there?   I tried once in 8+  years to wash the underside engine of my bike with a rag/soap and spent 5 minutes, good enough.  It will not make it run any faster all clean  under there, or will it?    Roll Eyes

I don't do it that way either but why not?   That bike is gorgeous!  I'm guessing it's a labor of love.

Once every couple years, I hit the bottom with engine degreaser and a wire brush, and hose off.

Jeff,

ALI's engine looked just like your bike's... until shortly after we rolled her off the showroom floor... I think Seth nailed it with his 'labor of love' speculation... I completely understand that, too... theoretically, that is... Nice job!

Cookiedough. I’ll answer you last

Thanks Bruce and Valkorado. Yes it is a labor of love but also...

Do you see all those “fins”. Those are cooling fins. A “blanket” of dirt and grime makes them less effective at dissipating heat.

Also I park inside. On the chance I come home in the rain. I don’t want muddy water dripping on the floor that I would have to clean

and lastly. Yes, someone does see that part of the bike almost every day. Me

I couldn't stand it, so I went to look. I cleaned the snot out of the bottom
of my motor a few years ago when my shifter seal went out and got
goo all over it... it is dirty now, I sure am happy it isn't black! And I'm
happy that I regularly clean and dry the bottoms of my nice chrome
headers  cooldude ...

Looks pretty good mike. We have to keep those Red and Whites maintained. There’s less and less older ones in great shape

I just took a picture under the tail light. Pretty dirty. Postimages is down so I can’t load it. Darn!

It's soft wire, not the real stiff one.  All my paint is still there, just dirty looking paint (with no grease).

besides very cleanliness,  you do really good woodwork repair.

I have been avoiding a small project and ask your opinion:

My garage side window frame ledge down below the slide from top to bottom window is rotten horribly been letting it go way way too long like 5 years now.    It is a basic clip on top in middle window that opens from the top swinging down about 16 inches by 3 feet wide or so basic garage window.

The bottom ledge is nearly gone can tear it apart with 1 finger is toast.

Should I replace entire window and frame below or just the frame below?  Is the window ledge (flat part on bottom that is totally rotten) part of the entire window itself?  I doubt it but in order to replace the ledge my guess is have to take the window out as well, maybe?

Thanks man!

If that window is over 20 years old like it sounds. I’d replace the whole thing

Yah, not sure how the wooden framed window attaches to the wooden ledge  below guessing on a hinge of some sort from the inside.   I guess start ripping the wooden ledge below out and see where it takes me?  Am guessing Menards has a window frame and window itself similar in size one would hope basic garage type fold down window.

Yes, was new in 1993 when house new but at the beginning I noticed that side had a crack/rot in it from the get go and now over 27 years or so now the snow and water grooved it all out to basic nothing but rot.  I have replaced garage door and front door bottoms mouldings around both doors cutting out the bottom 6 inches and glued/nailed in small pieces of grooved matching wood door frames with pressure treated wood fit pretty nicely vs. ripping out the whole frame but probably by the time I cut and fit 6 inches in place would be just as quick as ripping out the entire wooden frame on both sides?  Near 30 years a lot of wood will rot or I think anyways especially in hot or cold climates.

quarantine is going very well decided on Monday after month end last week done to do what 99% of the rest in our office was suppose to do stay at HOME and work.  I do NOT miss ONE minute of any social interaction with co-workers or boss issues.  I figure if this stay at home goes on 4 more weeks and we make it thru not falling behind then I will ask to work from home EVERY single day forever.  If one lady in my dept. who thinks she is 'special' can work from home in Oklahoma vs. in office in WI, I can to right?  It saves me headaches of no near 2 hours drive time daily with idiots and traffic,  saves 100 bucks or more in gas per month,  saves me 1400 miles per month on car, and sleep in 45 minutes later and when done work at 430 p.m. can get stuff done until 7 p.m. vs. driving home and then eating and too dark to do anything outside.

am loving it NOT one bad thing I can think of for working from home, but is early,  only 3 days into it have 4 full weeks will see how it goes.

This quarantine isn't getting any more fun. At least I have some woodwork to do. And the funny thing is now I have all month to do what I was planning on in a week. That means my customers will be very happy with their product.

And to make this Valkyrie related. I ran over a screw yesterday. So the wheel is off and I was able to clean that fender inside and other bits. By the time this quarantine is over the bike may just be pretty clean.  I ordered a new tire because I anticipate not being able to find a shop willing to patch it. I think they refuse to less for the stated safety reasons and more to make a tire sale. I got the tire from Walmart.com. Soon the Cobra bike will be wearing Cobra Chrome front and back. That’s pretty cool.

My 1500 has Cobra Chrome front and rear... there was a recall
on them, I checked mine against the list from Avon, and they're OK...

Thanks Mike it appears to be just that one size. I checked the code and date anyway and the front is good. I’ll check the rest when it gets here.

Quarantine still. I have been riding almost every day. But this weekend was supposed to be wet.

No rain yet but today its gloomy like it will rain soon so I planned on staying in. I conquered the last frontier. Cleaning the front brake calipers, polishing the pins and renewing the anti seize on the pins and caps. WOW. Looks like new. Not bad for 23 years old

Hey Jeff,you're missing a caliper cover...lol.

I got lazy this winter. I'm currently in the process of doing my winter maintenance. New tires and timing belts. Plus repolishing all my polished aluminum pieces, wheels, triple tree, final drive ect...

Looks great! I like these "clean" posts of yours.... gives us other wanna-be clean freaks inspiration  2funny
Interesting spot for your Guardian/Gremlin Bell....I guess as low to the road as possible for maximum protection? I have mine on the old horn mount on the crash bar below the timing belt cover... not as low to the road, but it's kept me safe for 18+ years so I ain't moving it  Smiley

Thanks Mike. These bikes are just too beautiful to not have them cleaned up between rides. It’s hard to believe a 23 year old bike can stay like new.

I took this picture just now. Can’t wait to get some wind tomorrow when this storm goes through
