Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Vancouver Island, BC, Canada

Hi everyone,

It has been quite some time since I have checked.
About 15 months ago I had an accident with my Interstate. I went down through a corner in a diesel spill. The bike just flipped out from under me at about 30MPH. It did not go well, I remember laying it down, then it jumped up, the steering went wild and I went down again. The bike displayed a different story. The fairing was shattered throughout, all the engine and bag guards had severe road rash as did the side bags and trunk. The tank had a very big dent the size of softball. The big surprise to me was the road rash across the top of the windshield and trunk rack; I don't remember being upside down.

Anyway.... I walked away fine, nothing broke, just a little sore. As my Asian neighbor said "You Big Lucky!". I was lucky, the bike not so much. The insurance company wrote it off, I purchase the wreck for cheap, thinking I would sell off the bits and pieces. I have since changed my mind. I have confirmed the frame is good and the forks are straight.

I sent ALL the cosmetics, tank, trunk and fenders out for repair and painting. Now I am starting to rebuild the bike and I realize I should have taken picture as I disassembled it.

I am hoping that someone can help me out by taking a picture of how the inner lid support cables are attached inside the saddlebags. I just can't seem to make sense of these, I thought I had it right, but they just don't hang right anymore. A good picture and/or description of how these attach would be much appreciated.

Best regards,

Glenn Schentag

Be sure and check on your state laws. I believe in some states if the isurance company made it a write off and classified it as totaled you can't get the bike registered any more even if it is repaired to perfect. Good Luck!  Cool

Yes, thanks.

Shortly after I purchased the wreck I had to specify what my intentions were.
I picked re-build. In BC, Canada, I will am required to have it inspected by Provincial inspector. It costs about $65.

Cheers,

Glenn

Glad you're OK, Glenn, and that the bike will be soon.  Should I ask where "Floppy" comes from?  Didn't think so.   Grin

I just checked the service manual pdf I downloaded from Dag's site to see if there was a good illustration and there is not.  If you don't already have the manual, you can download it here.

Try this one on, Scott.  When my 'wing was totaled (cracked & bent frame + lots of tupperware) in September, the insurance company said if I retained it, the title would remain clean.  If I took the total loss and the hulk went to the salvage company, the title would become salvage.  Same bike, same damage, different title classifications.   ???

If this is'nt what you need and if someone else does'nt hook you up I'll take a few more tomorrow morning when I can pull the bike outside away from my boat and get a better shot. It's raining little ice balls right now  Sad

Thanks for the picture Joe. I really appreciateit!
This is what I have done, for that connection. It is one of the other three contact ponts I'm not getting.
I also noticed that two cables are shorter. How are yours configured? Short cable in the back?

To answer Dave's question. What is "Floppy" in Floppy Doctor?
My first business 27 years ago in 1982 was a mobile Floppy Disk Repair Van.
I fixed 5ΒΌ" Floppy Drives on the first IBM PCs and earlier computers.
Yes indeed those were the days. $450.00 flat rate to repair a Floppy. IMB charged $1,200, Xerox charged $900; I was a heck of a deal at $450 and too in-experianced to know I could have charged $800. Thanks for asking.
And thanks for pointing out the manual, very helpful, just not for this problem. It only shows the CT bag opening. Great resource though, thanks again.
