Hi everyone,

It was  a year ago that I wiped all of the dust off of my 2000 I/S and pulled it out of the garage after sitting for a long time only to find that the carbs were leaking.

I dusted off my keyboard next and got back on this forum (which I had forgotten existed) and decided to tackle the job of replacing the bowl rings and jets myself.  I said then, and I'll say now, that I am no mechanic but I have a toolbox and said what the heck.

After finding out that my spelling was atrocious (which you all lovingly pointed out)  I took the carburetor  bank out as a whole and did the work.  My first post was asking if anyone had a digi-sync in the area and that's when I met SixLow.  He lives very close to me in St. Augustine.  A trip to his house and a few hours later and the bike was running again after having sat for about 5 years.

Now, the rest of the story....  live and learn.....
(I apologize to those of you who hate the dot, dot, dot but I can't break the habit.  To me it means 'more to come')

Here I am a year later and I decided to get the bike out.  I pulled it out and started cleaning and polishing it and low and behold, a puddle of gas under the engine.  I found it coming from the right side rear carburetor.  I immediately thought, oh no, I'm not doing that again!  I'll sell it first!!  But then I contacted SixLow and he asked me the 64,000 question, "did you replace the o-rings on the tubes that connect the carburetors".  Of course I didn't!  I just took the whole bank out a single unit just like in the video by D-ray on YouTube.  Well he said, yeah, those o-rings tend to rot after 20 years, you probably needed to replace them.  And then he offered to do the work for me at a very reasonable price!

A week later and I have my dragon back and it is running better than I can ever remember it running, even when I bought it 19 years ago.  Amazing power, quick throttle response and a grin from ear to ear.

Thank you SixLow!  For all of your help, expertise and patience with a novice mechanic.  I can't wait for this 'social distancing' to go away so that I can join you all on rides.

You're very welcome George I'm glad to hear she is running great, My test ride on her also felt very good and she is responsive with gobbs of power and torque. Makes me think mine could be running better !  Undecided.

I also look forward to sharing some wind and meeting up with the others very soon.
Thanks again George.

Here's a pic of what I found in this 20 year old carb bank, almost every one looked like this. Hopefully she'll be good for another 20 years.

I'm starting to wonder if I should have left mine down there for Mike to work on. It developed a gas leak on the way home, it was so bad we could not sleep in the toy hauler, we had to get a hotel room instead.

Good on you Mike.  I'm going to show my age and longevity around this motorcycle group.  I remember when I first met you at Bert's house in the forest when you were soaking up knowledge.  I knew it wouldn't be long until you were passing that knowledge on to others.  One more pat on the back.  This is a great group is all I can say.
