Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: April 10, 2020, 04:26:12 AM »

Yeah, there are those among us who have a… prominent streak of that in them. You probably have a couple in your area, too… I definitely have at least two near me… They never seem to tire of flaunting their bravado, either… their willingness to ‘flip the bird’ at convention, to scoff at danger, to simply ‘show-out’.

Yep, those two in my ‘hood’ ride… you know what… Those rides are both black, of course, equipped with ‘ape hangers’, loud exhausts, and that trademark ‘thu-thump’ ‘thu-thump’ sound when they cruise by… I often wonder if they are doing that just to taunt me, or if it’s possible they might actually be on a different mission altogether… I dunno…

I do know I sit and stew during each ride-by. I am indeed mighty jealous, and I am so tempted to join them… or, at least, to emulate their action. I have no need to call attention to myself, and I do not subscribe to the theory, “You ain’t having fun if you ain’t annoying anybody else…” therefore, I do not have to own a loud… one of those… to validate my ‘biker status’…

Beyond all the superficial stuff, though, there is still that basic similarity of two wheels, wind in the face, bugs in the teeth, banking of turns… that feeling of freedom, adventure, of increased exposure and risk… Of being in a very unique and special place only known to a select few… Yeah, our riding ‘appearances’ are quite different, but the fundamentals are essentially the same…

Perhaps those two aren’t sadistic at all… Just maybe they are like me and all of us in most ways, the important ways anyhow, and they are simply celebrating what we all relish whenever we can…? Maybe I was a bit too eager to judge them from the perspective of envy and not on the merits of their actions in a fair way…

I’m beginning to think I’d better get back out there, and sooner rather than later, to see if I can recover from this terrible case of PMS that’s overtaken me… In the meantime, I think I’ll take another nap… or, maybe even ponder some more on this… Oh poo-poo… Now I gotta decide… does the nap come first or the pondering…? I really do need a ride, don’t I?!!!

Jason,

I'm afraid you are correct... well, a full-time Canadian, anyway. Now, I am quite certain I could handle being a Canadian snowbird, though... I've known many Canadians who've adopted that lifestyle, and I find that has much appeal! I do enjoy your country... I can't even imagine your winters, however... Hope you get to ride soon... Yep, I'd be miserable for sure if I were a year-round resident!

Rob,

Busted! Intellectual pursuits do take a backseat to physical requirements... At least that issue is now resolved!

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

Bruce, not sure its Sadism or just that ever nagging desire to catch bugs......I have been going Bat $hit Crazy since this mess began. Plan to ride every weekend and the weather will not cooperate, the week is wonderful and the weekend seems to turn to junk.
My philosophy about catching some wind, at least here in Idaho, is that if the golf courses can stay open as long as you social distance; I can go for a ride. You cannot social distance more than on a motorcycle, you ride alone, when you stop at a light you are most likely more than 6' from your neighbor and if you need gas you are no different than the cagers that are getting gas.
So if I get the chance I will be in the wind and practicing my social distancing.
I know for you long haul trekker that is a little different as I go for a couple of hours to your couple of months. But even if its a ride to the state line and back at least you got some therapy.
So ride on my dear friend.
See you on down the road.

See if they’re up to a “casual“ 300 mile ride on some “sporty” roads one Saturday or Sunday, then see how much those ape hangers are appreciated.
